AOCI is an equity account (like retained earnings)…and OCI is like net income…it gets closed out at year end…and they all carry a credit balance!

    Assets, Expenses increase with debits

Liabilities, Revenues, and Equity increase with credits

AOCI is the aggregate of prior year OCI not reversed/amortized/etc?

Sometimes it helps to go back to basics!

Also, with much of the Becker study materials they teach you the theory and how to calculate an item, but they do not show you the journal entries or how it effects the F/S.

The retail (conventional/cost/lifo) inventory methods are the inventory valuation techniques where you determine a ratio based on cost to retail (some include markups only, some include both markups and markdowns, some include purchases, some don't), and you apply it to the ending inventory at retail to determine your ending inventory at cost.

Yes when I used Becker briefly for FAR they really don't go over any JEs…but Yaeger focuses a lot on JEs. I don't even think Yaeger covers the retail inventory methods at all?! Maybe it isn't important?? lol

It definitely does help to go back to basics!! When all else fails, do T accounts and/or make journal entries!! lol

Yes AOCI is the aggregate of PY OCI!

I think it is safe to assume that Yaeger would rather have you focus on the much more common inventory methods than to fret (like I am) about the details of the less-than-common inventory methods. It is much easier to lose the big picture when trying to memorize the very fine details.

I hear you…I am having trouble nailing down the more common inventory methods! I am glad those less common ones weren't covered!

Ugh….feeling so overwhelmed just flipping through the Yaeger handouts and seeing all the stuff I have yet to cover. 🙁

    MPoni…. Don't fret!

I haven't even been through all of the material once yet! My “review” is going to be skimming the Becker simulations for 2 hours and then reading through the CFA/CPA notes twice!

@Idrathergolf – Well that does make me feel a little better! I know I still have tonight and all day Sat – Mon. Plus a few hours on Tuesday (the day of the exam)…so I know I still have time to retain more info.

People who are using Yaeger – I just printed out Jeff's notes…should I just focus on Jeff's notes and not Yaeger's handouts? I think financeguy mentioned that I should focus on Jeff's notes instead…as terrible as this sounds I wanna shortcut this exam in every possible sense I can lol.

what helped me was doing questions on cpareviewforfree.com. the questions on that site aren't really like the exam but they detail the answers very well, and that helped me actually learn the material better.

@Mponi, sorry I was not here to answer your question. However it was answered.. That is right the ending amount, which will be different depending on the method chosen… I was explaining how to get to each.. Get away from inventory! its probably hardly tested. I just got home so its gonna be a long night! I am a great procrastinator, if only they tested that lol.

When you say fixed assets do you mean depreciation?

    Time for some accountability.

My goal for the remainder of the evening: Financial Instrument MCQ, Stockholders Equity Lecture, Stockholders Equity MCQ

Feeling pretty under prepared. Quickly went through all of the chpaters and now I am reviewing every chapter. Just starting my review of Chapter 4 tonight. Running out of days. So stressful. Using Becker.
