Hello all, I was hoping to get some advise/feedback on my study strategy for FAR. This is my first section I am trying and will take my first test in Nov. 2011. I started studying Mid-July which gave me about 4 months to study, I figured that I would do a chapter per week (Watch lecture, do all MCQ’s, and make sure I read exactly/understand why I got questions wrong). I haven’t taken notes and am kind of using these first 9 weeks to get a feel for the test structure and the material and then will have almost 2 months to do review/notes/pounding it into my head. Is this a bad strategy? I am getting around 50% on the MCQ’s and am moving on anyway expecting to review intensely all the material again in that final 2 months.

    Any advise/feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

That should be plenty of time. I undertand wanting to pass your first exam and putting in extra work, but dont take 4 months on others. Especially BEC and AUD.

Thats a good strategy. Go through the sections 3-4 times and do as many practice MC questions as possible

pshustler is right about taking less time on the other exams so you don't run the risk of losing credit on ones you've passed. It shouldn't be a problem, though, because the other exams don't cover as much material as FAR. Also, as you're preparing for FAR, identify those study techniques that are most effective for you and those that are least effective. This will help you prepare for the other exams more quickly.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

Thank you, very valuable advise. I decided to take the CPA “plunge” in July, which put my first test window at Oct./Nov., so I figured I would take my time and really try to get the beast of FAR behind me since the clock doesn't start till I pass one of the exams. I won't be using this much time for the other exams.

Make sure to do one or more progress tests every week so that the older material is still at least faintly familiar to you by the time you get to the end. If I hadn't done progress tests, I would have been in a lot worse shape for my exam.

    FAR 07/27/11 - 87
    AUD 10/01/11 - 85
    BEC 11/15/11 - 87
    REG 01/03/12 - 92
