FAR Study Plan - Page 2

    Hello Everyone,

I found out 2 weeks ago that I passed Audit and only have FAR to go. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. However, I had some events take place in my personal life literally the week I got my results which was the same week that I was planning to begin to study for FAR. Due to this, I have been in more or less of a depression/study slump for the past 2 weeks and just cannot seem to figure out a way to get back on track.

For my materials I have an old Becker book (useful for accounting material that does not change), the 2013 Wiley Book and NINJA MCQ’s for FAR. The amount of information for FAR is quite in depth and I’m trying to go through the material by chapter in the Wiley Book, do the questions, take the notes, etc. However, it’s taking so long to do as I want to make sure I have a firm grasp before moving to the next section(which is fine as this is a process). However, it becomes somewhat de-motivating.

I’ve used the NINJA method in the past and it’s worked EVERY TIME. I guess I’m just having a hard time getting motivated and am frustrated with myself over it. Can someone please give me some advice on a study plan/motivation to get me back on track? Did anyone use any different methods for tackling FAR i.e. learn topics in a different order, etc.?

    Thanks for your feedback.

Do you think someone could pull off FAR in 6 weeks?

Yea, but if you work or have other obligations it would be difficult. Study for 8 hours a day. 8 x 6 weeks = 336 hours of study time which should be more than enough time to ensure you pass.

If all you had to do was work and study you may still be able to pull it off. Work 8-5, study 6-11 every weeknight and 8 hour days on Saturday and Sunday gives you 5*30 weekdays = 150 weekday hours + 16*6 = 96 weekend hours for a total of 246 hours. It's possible, but unlikely that you would give up every night and weekend for 6 weeks. However, if you used the Ninja way and did an hour each morning, study at lunch, and only 1-2 hours each night you may not get burnt out and it could be possible.

I studied for FAR in just over 6 weeks, actually, at 30 hours a week. It's not unmanageable.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91

For FAR, it's mostly staying committed and pushing yourself through the homework. Comprehensive progress tests after modules helped a lot, too!

With FAR, I just did tons of progress tests. With AUD, I actually went through the book a second time and re-answered all the non-optional homework questions.

I guess the gist of it is to make sure you understand why the right answer is correct and the why the other three are wrong (and what they more correctly relate to) when you do the homework. In my experience, understanding the MCQs is more than enough to tackle the SIMs.

@mamabear , after reading the posts again, you are correct – no one said that; it was simply my perception due to speed reading. Duly noted.

@gatorgirl – tough, but possible! I gave myself exactly two months for FAR, and actually took a full week off. The weeks I did study, I studied 4-5 days / week for 2-3 hours per night. If you can commit 4-5 days a week at 4 hours per night, I'd say it's possible! It may be prudent to take a few diagnostic quizzes that CPA Excel offers (do they still?) and see where you really need to focus. You could also do a cram course in lieu of that full course. These courses are designed to (statistically and proportionately) give you the knowledge you need to pass the exam.

    Just my two cents!
