I cannot understand the explanation of this question, am I alone?
Hudson Hotel collects 15% in city sales taxes on room rentals, in addition to a $2 per room, per night occupancy tax. Sales taxes for each month are due at the end of the following month, and occupancy taxes are due 15 days after the end of each calendar quarter. On January 3, 20X2, Hudson paid its November 20X1 sales tax and its fourth quarter 20X1 occupancy taxes. Additional information pertaining to Hudson's operations is:

    Room Room
    Rentals Nights
    October 20X1 $100,000 1,100
    November 20X1 110,000 1,200
    December 20X1 150,000 1,800
What amounts should Hudson report as sales taxes payable and occupancy taxes payable in its December 31, 20X1, balance sheet?

    A.
Sales taxes: $39,000; Occupancy taxes: $6,000

    Correct B.
Sales taxes: $39,000; Occupancy taxes: $8,200

    C.
Sales taxes: $54,000; Occupancy taxes: $6,000

    D.
Sales taxes: $54,000; Occupancy taxes: $8,200

Since Hudson paid the November sales tax on January 3, sales tax for both November and December are payable on December 31:

Sales taxes payable on December 31, 20X1:

    November sales $110,000 x .15 = $16,500
    December sales $150,000 x .15 = 22,500
    ——-
    Total $39,000
    =======
Occupancy taxes payable on December 31, 20X1:

    Taxes = Room nights for 4th quarter x $2
    = (1,100 + 1,200 + 1,800) x $2
    = 4,100 x $2
    = $8,200

@mscfisher here is the Gleim explaination. Does this help?

    Answer (B) is correct.
Hudson presumably paid its October sales taxes during Year 4, but it did not pay sales taxes for November and December and occupancy taxes for October, November, and December until Year 5. Consequently, it should accrue a liability for sales taxes in the amount of $39,000 [($110,000 November rentals + $150,000 December rentals) × 15%] and a liability for occupancy taxes in the amount of $8,200 [(1,100 + 1,200 + 1,800) room nights × $2].

If a purchase option at end of lease is 5,000 and the estimated value of the asset asset is 15,000, would the bargain purchase option used in capitalizing the lease be 5,000 @FV/1 or 10,000 @FV/1?

Question I came across is 10,000 purchase price and 20,000 estimated value, so can't tell if its just the purchase price or net amount of purchase price and estimated value.

@norseman88 I think that the bargain purchase option would be $5,000 adjusted for PV. The lessee has the option to purchase leased property at the end of the lease term below the expected fair value of $15,000.

@norseman88 – I have no idea! LOL! I am going through the GOV material and printed out IFRS vs. GAAP comparison pages to keep it in my face for the next couple of days and hoping that something will eventually stick. 🙂

How are you doing? And how are you surviving during the day while staying up all night? People ask me this question all the time and I have absolutely no idea how I am still functional!

@Namstut – Souns like it's a good idea to hit those topics. I plan to hit Gov't & NFP hard tomorrow. I need to mix in some sim review, haven't done any yet, atleast get my eyes on a few. That comparison in F10 is solid, working the MCQ in f10 seems to just be all IFRS and not GAAP. I'm averaging about 81% right now on F1-F7.

I have my 32oz yeti rambler that goes with me to the library until i'm kicked out at 5:30, then another batch is administered for round two. Lol. Luckily got to take thur and fri off last week and have mon – wed off next week so that has helped. If I get to sleepm after 3am, i'm dead, so usually shooting for around 2.

It sounds like you are in great shape and with a few more days to go you will be ready! And I am not going to ask you what's in your yeti rambler. 😉

I go to sleep at 2-2:30 am on weekdays, up at 6 am to go to work, back at home after 8 pm. I stay up until 4-5 am on weekends but I get to sleep in. I am horrible when it comes to concentrating (ADHD) so studying for a CPA has been a real challenge.

We shall see, need to keep banging away, I don't ever feel ready!

I hear you on the ADHD. I tend to have some ADD issues while taking the exam, lose focus and sit on my question for 20 min like a fool. I think half the exam comes down to effective time management and knowing when to quit on a question, take a smart guess and move forward. I need to find a way to get to sims with 2 hours remaining. Should be doable as long as I don't get too many of the monster long questions.

On another note, I am seriously debating wearing some depends for men during the exam. I have serious bladder issues and don't want to risk losing time for a bathroom break!

My Monster drink almost came out of my nose when I read about depends! Actually, I have been thinking about it as well. We should probably start wearing them now so we get used to them for the test day! 🙂

And the problem with studying with ADHD is that I probably study only one hour out of the two. I am wasting a LOT of time getting distracted.

Haha – My GF actually said I should wear one before the exam and go in it just to get comfortable with the feeling in case it happens during the exam. When it sets the wand alarm off at Prometric, i'll tell them, don't worry, that's just my depends!

I expect a full report by EOD tomorrow!!

Started working on the cash flow SIM for the Enterprise fund. Don't even know where to begin but it's going to be a good exercise because I still get confused on categories.

Just took a look at that question… If I get that question on the exam, you can count me in for a retake Q2
