myleen28ParticipantHi Modaz, I would love to join your study group. I'm preparing for FAR and scheduled to take April 2nd. I have been studying on and off since November but always distracted by the demands at work (been working long hours and some weekends). Since our company was purchased, our accounting dept will be absorbed hence we will be laid off this year. My last day is on Feb. 26th so I'm looking forward to study the whole month of March. But still distracted by job interviews. I need a study buddy who will always motivate me to study. By the way, I'm using Becker and my pace is pretty slow. I'd rather be like that than hurrying up because I can easily retain information with this method.
FAR - 7/02/16

AUD - TBD

AnonymousInactiveHi Modaz,
I have been around 71 for a few years. I am now back on my CPA Journey. Please count me in!!! I am taking FAR the first week in April. I am using CPAexcel. It is very overwhelming! On this journey, I have noticed taht once LIFE happens and knocks me off my study schedul, it' hard to get motivated to get back on schedule. Been doing this for 3 YEARS and ready to get this over with!
aogreen….what materials are you using?
Everyone, please post what study materials that you are using.
Let's keep each other motivated!

AnonymousInactiveJust took my FAR exam today.
Becker exams: 60 on both.
I would do little MCQ's progress tests in spurts of 20 or so before hand and scored 65-80 on them.
MCQ's on the actual exam were way easier compared to Becker. Got 2 out of 7 of the simulations 100% correct, and the rest were a toss up. Figuring I should be around 80-85% on MCQ's and around 475-500 on sims, putting me just around a 75%. Not exacty sure how things are graded based on weight, etc.
At the end of the day, I am pretty sure that I passed but wouldn't be surprised to not have passed by 2-3%.
I suggest that you try to know atleast something about everything. It really comes down to what was on the test that you took. I could have gotten a lot higher or lower, depending on what the sims/mc's were. Just luck of the draw with what you are tested on. If you're scoring low on your practice tests don't freak out. I took peoples advice by not freaking out on low scores on practice exams and it paid off (at least mentally).
Starting to study for AUD in a couple days, and hopefully will get to keep the FAR book closed for good.

jss49901ParticipantHi, I am taking FAR on 02/27, and I just wanted to see if anyone who has had success could give me some tips? Did you find the most important thing you did was just pound MCQ every day? I'm wondering how many per day I should be trying to do as it seems time gets away from me in the evenings after working all day. I feel like if I had a goal I could force myself to sit down and do that many each day. I have read almost the whole Ninja book (I ran out of time according to my study plan and I didn't want to get behind), copied the Ninja Notes and am now doing MCQ every day. I plan to rewrite the Ninja Notes, watch the Blitz videos and just continue doing MCQ over and over. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Spartans92ParticipantHi,
This may sound like a dumb question, but as I mentioned before Financial Accounting is my weak area. Can someone explain to me what is the difference between capitalizing and expensing. I know when I studied for AUD it briefly talked about repair and maintenance expenses and capitalizing it etc. Now Im on to FAR and the topic is back (I wish Becker could explain these concepts and not assume everyone knows them, I mean yea you should have the knowledge but its been a while). I think RogerCPA does a better job at this because Roger explains as if people don't recall anything. Too bad I can't afford his material and Becker is paid by my firm. I didn't bother understanding it during AUD rather memorized the concept. It will be great if I can get this clarified. Thanks!I know I should have studied harder for my intermediate classes. :/ LOL
BEC- PASS
February 10, 2016 at 9:45 pm #746511
AnonymousInactiveThe difference between the two in simple terms is: expensing is recognizing a cost at one time (generally immediately). Capitalizing is recognizing/amortizing a cost over a period of time.
Example:
When you buy equipment you would record it as an asset and amortize the cost over a period of time (depreciation) rather than expense the entire cost at the time you buy it.February 10, 2016 at 9:50 pm #746512
Spartans92Participant@dhums15 Thanks! Thats a very clear explanation.
BEC- PASS
February 11, 2016 at 7:09 pm #746513
swim4life107ParticipantI was originally scheduled to take Feb 29th, but passing my Audit and only having 1 exam left (and less exams to pass before my BEC expires in Feb. 2017), I'm pushing this back to the April/May testing period. Probably the last Saturday in May.
So in short, I'll be around these parts for a bit. I studied the Becker-FAR back in May/June. When I registered, I wasn't careful and I registered for the other 3 parts. They wouldn't switch my NTS so I was forced to do the other 3 first. It worked out better because passing BEC and REG on the first try gave me the confidence to move forward. I also had a bit of FAR saved in the bank for AUD. Most of the AUD simulations have FAR concepts and it took me by surprise.
Are the only big changes foe 2016 is Unusual and Infrequent items not being tested?
BEC: 77 (08/20/15)
REG: 85 (10/10/15)
AUD: 59, 78 (01/06/16) NINJA MCQ IS A LIFESAVER!!!!
FAR: 77 (6/8/16)ALL DONE!!! I AM PROOF THAT ANYONE CAN DO IT.

Claudia408ParticipantI've yet to take Far but from what I can remember, I thought I saw an excel spreadsheet during my last exam for Reg. I didn't quite need an excel spreadsheet for Reg, just a simple calculator was sufficient, but 1) do they actually provide a spreadsheet during the exam? 2) is it just like excel that can do basic adding/subtracting etc?
