TncincyParticipantAfter calculating the market value from ceiling, mid, floor. You should take the Lower of Cost or Market. I think that's next in calculating replacement cost and market value.

gorbuhaParticipantHi everyone,
I have been out of school for years now and have finally decided to take on the CPA exam. I am 35 years old, have a full time job, a wife and a little baby boy. I have just started going over Willey CPA Review and will be taking my FAR in August of 2013. I have also purchased a subscription to Willey CPA Test Bank. The one thing that I have noticed while going over Willey FAR Review text is that it takes me forever to read it. Since I am the “read ever word” person I am afraid that I am not going to have enough time to review all the material in the text. And I do need to review it as I have forgotten a lot of staff since I got out of school. The question that I would like to ask you opinion on is given my situation above how much time do I have to put in every week in studying? How much time did you guys spent?
Sincerely,
gorbuha

TncincyParticipantFAR requires a lot of time. I would put in at least 6 weeks but you might want to get the ninja materials to go with wiley to kinda direct you to the must know things. I am sure there is a lot to study, but this way you don't spend too much time wandering around the book. And do as many mcq's as you can and take notes. Hope this helps.

AnonymousInactiveHey, I noticed your post because I'm tackling the exam with a full time public accounting job and a 1 year old son. I have done two sections so far, and I have planned about 160 hrs for FAR divided over 2 months (so like 20 hrs a week). That is a lot more than I did for audit and BEC, but there is obviously a ton of material. I will be doing some review at the half way point to see if I need to increase my hours.
June 5, 2013 at 3:53 am #436371I have been studying for FAR since I finished school May 3. I was going to take it May 31 but there weren't any openings so now I am taking it on July 1. I have covered all of the material in Becker and I am now working through ALL the MCQ and SIM again. I am almost finished with F-2. I am well over 100 hours and will probably hit 200+ by the time my exam rolls around. How many hours is everyone else putting in for FAR?
I took BEC in April and passed!!! I only put in about 45 hours.

LSM-CPAParticipantStarted studying for FAR and I agree it's a lot of information. Hoping that 6 weeks is enough study time for this section. Good luck to all the Ninjas!

StephAVMemberMy plan was 120 hours. at 15 hours a week over 8 weeks. I have 7 weeks until the exam and I'd say I've probably been doing about 10 hours a week for the last 3 weeks. I feel like I need to step it up to get through the material for the first time with my intense notes. I'm feeling like 120 hours isn't going to do it.
I keep hearing that doing the questions is the key to success. I think I really failed at that in my first attempts (years ago). I am getting anxious about getting through the material and getting started on the questions.
Does anyone know if the questions in the Wiley books are the same as the questions in the online test bank? I'm just wondering do I need to do both? Or can I just go for online and only use the book if I'm like away from the internet or something?

AnonymousInactiveHey StephAV!
I do not have Wiley, so I don't know the answer to your MC question. But I just wanted to let you know that I too am testing for CA and trying to pass by 11/30/12…to #1 avoid losing my AUD credit and #2 the 150 unit requirement
… My AUD credit expires by 11/25/13 actually.
anyway, good to know I'm not the only one 🙂

StephAVMember@CPA4birthdaypresent – Aw, I'm so jealous that you are way ahead of me! Reading this forum is freaking me out a little. I've read a few posts from people that have done all the right studying and still haven't passed. If I don't pass any section the 1st time I'd say my 11/30 goal is going to be blown. I really need to put in the time and effort and get this done right the first time.
On the Wiley products seem like most people say they are doing both the books and the online test bank. I know online has a lot more questions. Anyway, back to inventory.

AnonymousInactive@StephAV: I use Wiley and while I haven't specifically checked to see if the questions are the exact same, I usually only work the book questions of the areas I have the most trouble in since there are WAY more online questions.
Also, don't forget that you can download MCQ question packs to use when you don't have internet access!

so1913ParticipantI'm finding it hard to really buckle down and focus on FAR with my BEC score floating out there…although I feel there is the chance I passed, I know it wouldn't be by flying colors. In the back of my mind there's still the chance I didn't pass and that I'll have to stop FAR review and go back to BEC:( I can't wait for Friday to get here and get passed these “what ifs” and FOCUS on ONE part!

TaReneeMember@so1913 …. I'm in the same boat! I'm going to be a mess when Friday gets here and I see people say scores are rolling out -_- .. I have been working on my anxiety, but score release day does not help!
