TracymomMemberHey everyone,
Taking FAR tomorrow!!
My goal from a few months ago was to have everything for the CPA completed by my birthday, August 11. That involved passing BEC and FAR, taking 7 credit hours, and doing the ethics course.
I passed BEC in May, and have completed 4 of the 7 credit hours. I had plenty of time left on my NTS, but because I wanted to get FAR done by my birthday, I went ahead and scheduled it for Aug. 8th. The time has flown by, and now I'm starting to panic. I'm feeling very shaky about it. It's been a busy summer and I haven't spent nearly as much time studying as I should have.
I won't completely meet my goal because I'm still enrolled in my last class to get me to 150 hours, and won't be done with it until October. I also haven't taken the Ethics course. But if (and I'm feeling like it's a big IF) I can pass FAR tomorrow, I'll be finished with the exam!! I won't have the score back for my birthday, but it will certainly be a very nice birthday present to get rid of those study books & CDs and enjoy listening to something besides CPA review on my way to and from work!
Here's sending out good luck wishes for all of us who are taking FAR during the rest of August. I hope we all do great!!
Aiming to be finished with the CPA exam by August 11, 2013 (my birthday) - DONE!!!!

so1913ParticipantI'm feeling doubtful as I'm not getting through this review as quickly as I had envisioned when I started out the week 🙁 I really thought I'd get further along that I have but it's really taking time to get through these chapters. I wish I could really take off work and study full time, but that's not an option lol, so I must work with the time I have.
Still pushing to put in 3 hours every night during the work week. Last night I wanted to give up when I got a little discouraged from getting MCQ after MCQ wrong, but quickly told myself there's no time for that. I already know what I have to do this weekend…
Good luck to all who have taken and will be taking this exam this week!

NYCaccountantParticipantHow important are the disclosure rules for Pensions? I feel like trying to memorize all of these rules are insane for Pensions.
FAR - 93
REG - 87
BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.August 8, 2013 at 6:10 pm #437182
AnonymousInactive@CPjAson I'm from Maryland lol Good luck tomorrow!
@NYCaccountant honestly when it comes to disclosures there are too many to memorize so I would like Becker suggest disclose as much as possible so if it's one of those questions which asks you which one of the following four statements is correct, I always pick the one with all the options as long as you can eliminate one or two other options.

AnonymousInactiveI am 100% FREAKED OUT about this exam. I'm only through F2 and I am really worried, not only about the time it's taking but also that the material is just not sinking in the way I need it to. I think part of the problem is I am not an accountant so I have no practical experience, and the extra classes I took to meet the state's educational requirements (so yes, I do have 30 accounting hours) didn't teach me much that helps on the exam. (Quickbooks class anyone?!) I just bought Becker's module specific to journal entries (which I'm not completely knocking, because I have learned some things), but really only about 35 of the 50 questions were journal entry related and the others were regular MCQ.
Sorry — just a vent. No real point to this post, but you guys are the only ones who get what a monster this is.

lolabeatrizParticipant@DJN – I understand you completely. I am trying to finish Governmental and Non-for profit tonight to then go back to F3 where I left it… F2 MCQs were ETERNAL!! You know? I did exactly the same. I took extra classes to meet the educational requirements and the last one was the first semester of 2010. I have forgotten a lot of stuff. Also, there are many candidates that meet the requirements to sit for the exam before acquiring the experience and pass the exam. These tests prove that the individual has the basic knowledge. I've been working in financial analysis and accounting and it does help a little, but not like “WOW!!”.
Based on your scores I believe you are going to do great.
My vent 🙁
I constantly think why didn't I start studying in June while I was home out of work for three weeks???… I broke my left big toe the day after my AUD exam and spent all that time at home as per the Dr's instructions and only did F1. I feel a little disappointed because I know it is my fault, but then I think: I need to get my hands on, forget about that, and learn from that experience. That time is gone… looking forward now.
AUD - 89 (expired) - re-take 5/26/2015 = 86!!!!!! YEAH!!!
BEC - 78 (expired) - re-take 4/16/2016 = 80

MelParticipantI haven't posted on here in a little while! Just been lurking and trying to keep up with my studies. I've finished all the lectures and i'm hammering out MCQs hoping to get through all the WTB ones by next weekend. Still working through the Becker questions during the day while i'm “working” but I'm only on F-2. I agree with lola, they are ETERNAL. I've come to the realization that i hate the Becker questions and love the Wiley questions. They're not easier questions but easier to get through and the explanations are spot on.
@CPA Dilemma I'm in Maryland Too! Good luck on your exam tomorrow!

Nevergiveup2012MemberCan somebody help me understand how to calculate weighted average of accumulated expenditure for Capitalized Interest calculation? I got so confused with the way Becker calculate the weighted average of accumulated expenditure for the year. It's in Becker F4 SIMS tab #4 . Becker came up with $360,000 Weighted Average expenditure for the year. Why is it lower than the actual expenditures for the year (if you add all the expenditures up = $570,000)? I know that the weighted average part throws me off. I feel so dumb to not be able to understand this.

BEC - 86 (8/31/12)
AUD - 97 (11/18/12)
REG - 83 (5/12/13)
FAR - 91 (12/2/13)
Done!!!August 9, 2013 at 6:22 am #437187
Mike1987Member@Nevergiveup2012, I was confused by it at first as well. It's the same as the WACSO calculation in F7. For the avoidable interest calculations I like to do it by just taking each of the dollar amounts multiplied by the # of months left till year end over 12 months. This way I do not have to keep track of the numbers like the solution does.
So I would just do 130,000 x 12/12 + 240,000 x 9/12 + 200,000 x 3/12 = 360,000
Hopefully that helped.. I should probably be going to sleep now.

NYCaccountantParticipantWhat score should you be averaging in Wiley Test bank to feel comfortable before test date? I just discovered that magical “Seen Fewer Than” option, took a test and did well. I feel like i'm guessing though and just don't feel as good about the material. I actually feel like i'm guessing within the book also sometimes, but somehow would get a 80 something first time through each section, even though while reading the section, I barely understood the text. I just don't want to set myself up
for complete failure during the actual exam.
FAR - 93
REG - 87
BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.August 10, 2013 at 1:22 pm #437192
AnonymousInactive@dsteele139 I wouldn't count on them getting any better. lol. I didn't use Becker to know their specific layout, but I know that in the Wiley books, there weren't any really easy sections!
@NYCaccountant – my cumulative average in WTB was 74 on MCQs and I got an 83 on the real thing. My SIMs were good, so I'm not saying that WTB is 9 points harder than the real thing…but just throwing some numbers out there. And in my opinion, a large part of these exams *is* guessing. It's learning enough about the topic to make an educated guess as to the answer. So, if you're guessing on a lot, but guessing right, you're probably OK! Oh, and in WTB, I love the options to customize the question set…I usually use the “Never seen” until I get through all those, then go through again with “Answered incorrectly 1 or more times”. I like the Practice Sessions so that I can get immediate feedback and learn from the ones that I got wrong, rather than the tests which save it all up for the end.
Right after reading the material, I would anticipate that you'd have much higher scores. Even though it didn't make sense while you were reading it, the material is still fresh in your mind, so you can make even better educated guesses. 😉
How long till your exam? What type of scores are you getting?
