AnonymousInactiveStudy tip:
I personally don't like studying at home on weekends. I rather go outside at a park or a cafe. My husband finally agreed to accompany me to a cafe for a few hours this past weekend (he's studying for his CFE) and now we have decided to try a different cafe every weekend to spice things up in our study lives lol
try and make your study time as enjoyable as possible.

AnonymousInactiveFinished F4 this week and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
However, F5 more than made up for it. I did worse on the bonds questions than I did for any other section I've worked on for the test so far. I literally scored below 20% on the first pass through. Considering 10% of the NINJA notes are dedicated just to bonds, I need to do some serious work on this section this weekend.
So, Sat and Sun will be completely dedicated to accounting for leases and bonds. I'm hoping that Becker has once again taken a relatively straight forward topic and convoluted it to the point that I think the review loses its value. That seems to be on target for them based on the other 3 sections I've worked. I'll see if the Wiley MCQs are better or if I am just completely missing the topic. Either way, it'll be practise, practise, and more practise this weekend.

TncincyParticipantWell, maybe one of the ninja's or Jeff might have a tactic or study suggestion on how to tackle bonds and leases. I am guessing this a heavily tested area. I am not on bonds and leases yet ( coming up soon) but I am interested so I don't waste time wandering through material if there is a better way.
It begins with a 75

AnonymousInactiveBest thing to do for bonds and leases is understand and know the amortization schedule by heart. Also learn the journal entries. With that being said I also had trouble learning these topics as well. I watched the lectures twice for both bonds and leases and did as many MCQ on as I possibly could. You never know what your test will throw at you. These topics were very minimal on my test…like 4% total but that is not the same for everyone. It will start clicking soon. Good luck!!

AnonymousInactiveThanks to those that replied to my rant and offered help. 🙂
@tncincy: I wouldn't worry too much about altering a method as everyone learns differently. Not really a better or worse way as it depends on what works for you. For whatever reason, this just isn't clicking for me yet. I need lots of MCQ work and hopefully it will come together.
@CPA4birthdaypresent and Casagarber: I got a good 45-50 out of 60 wrong so I think it's the whole section. lol. Particularly the stock conversion ones and the amortization schedule. For whatever reason, the fact patterns confuse me. It makes sense once I read through the answer but I'm just failing to apply the knowledge. To be honest, I think I just need to practise it more. But, I'll take that suggestion and watch the lectures again too. It might come together a little better now that I know the types of questions.
I definitely don't plan on relying on it being a small portion of the test. I know they'll blow me up on that portion if I just hope for the best and glaze over it.

AnonymousInactiveI was pretty aggravated that I didn't get more questions on those subjects..yeah…definitely don't hope for anything being light on the exam. Every time you do a problem write down the journal entry whether you need to do it to solve the problem or not. Trust me, this works.

nbad311Member@CPA4birthdaypresent, that's funny because I feel the same exact way about weekend studying! I need to be out of the house and out at a Starbucks or similar place on long days like a Saturday. Sometimes I have to go to multiple places on the same day!
That's awesome you have a study buddy, I do too! My already-CPA husband got his real estate license while I was studying for BEC and his new position at work has him studying for ACAMS … ? Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists!

I have already purchased the Wiley textbook for FAR and let's just say that size really does matter, YIKES!!! This book is HUGE!!!! Well I suppose we all have to start somewhere, right? 😉 Once I have a passing BEC score in hand, I plan on purchasing the 10 point combo and getting to work right away! In the meantime I will start taking notes on the opening modules and start watching FAR ninja blitz!
Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

NYIACCT89MemberDoes anyone have any advice on how to study the statement cash flows?
To my surprise, that section on Becker was much tougher than I thought and having been through 8 of the lectures already I know this section will be my biggest weakness besides Government and NFP.
For those of you are starting to study using Becker and afraid of not being able to retain information – do a progress tests weekly of all of the lectures you have completed to date. I can not express how pleased I am with my information retention for the first 6 lectures (still have some work to do on 7 and 8 HWs) from doing this. I just hope it all continues to stay there until I'm done with FAR July 1st!

neika822ParticipantI'm dying studying for FAR. I just get so frustrated. I was planning on taking this in July, but I might push it back to August since it's taking me so long to do each chapter. I'm on MCQ's for Chapter 2, but it takes awhile to do each question, and then I get frustrated and quit.
And I just want to be outside in the gorgeous weather!! AHhhh!!!

AnonymousInactiveHi Everyone,
I am waiting on my (hopefully) passing grade for REG after which I'll begin studying for FAR. I must say that I am a bit overwhelmed by the volume of information in FAR. I have been trying to study no longer than 6 weeks because after that I feel as if the laws of diminishing returns set in; I get frustrated with studying and I keep losing the information. It's going to be worst particularly since it's summer now.
Unfortunately it seems as if 6 weeks won't be enough for FAR. I am going to put together a study plan this week to see what I can do.
One question I have for those starting to study…..Do you think the 2012 Becker and Wiley material is okay to use?

robastuMemberBest of luck all! Took FAR yesterday and so glad to be done with it! The early lectures are definitely longer and tougher to get through but in my opinion, 8, 9, and 10 weren't too bad (so look forward to that!).
@BAFR – Yes, I actually think Becker did a really good job for FAR in comparison to the other tests.
REG - 1/4 - 95
