How long are you guys studying for FAR? 2 months, 3 months???

I'm taking this section next, I'm not overlapping it with any other sec.

I pretty much study 2-4 hours Mon thru Fry and 5-6 Sat and Sun.

ANY help will be MUCH appreciated. I always reply. I always say thank you ^_^

@Steph. No, I still have about a year left. I am going away and then starting work though, so the latest I could feasibly push is the 16th. Also, my [dating] anniversary is July 13th so I really really wanted to get everything done before then.

@mypetmeatball If you think the extra few days will help than do it!!! It's better to give yourself the extra few days than to come up short and have to wait it out to retest in October.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think I am ready for tomorrow (test day)! I made it my goal to take a progress test consisting of 20 questions from each lecture (F1-F10) today. This allowed me to complete 200 MCQs and give me some guidance as to my weaknesses. F1&F3 had 85% F8 had 80% and all others were 100%. I have gone back and covered my weak areas and now feel very prepared. For those preparing to take the exam soon, I would recommend this study method, it helped me out tremendously. Wish me luck for tomorrow!

@ Adrost question regarding this part of your example: “If there is a loss (ie: we give Item A with a book value of $20 for item B with a FAIR value of $18. or we give item C with a book value of $10 and $2 in cash for item D with a FAIR value of $11) we must recognize the loss immediately in our I/S and place the asset on our books at fair value.”

I do not think I am getting this subject correctly either, so on Becker page F2-39 for things without commercial substance they seem to add the cash you give to the FV of what you give up and the BV of what you gave up (I do not really understand why as they specifically mention to not add cash to the calculation for things with commercial substance bottom F2-36). So wouldn't the Item C in your example not result in a loss as if we do not have the FV of what we gave up with use the FV of what we received so it would be $13 – $12 = gain of 1?

    @icanhazcpa,

No worries, I am nervous anyway…..14 days what should I throw overboard. I don't want to reschedule again, but I still need to cover statement of cash flows, government, and derivatives ( review). Seems like the more I get done the more I need to do.

I just wrote my 6th FAR exam yesterday, and I am very disappointed about my time management

and how I did on the sims. I only had 65 minutes left for the sims, and left most of my answers blank…

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I got 1 moderate and 2 difficults on my MCQ testlets.

I know I've missed some of the questions, but overall I believe I did fairly well on the MCQs….

Is there still a possibility for me passing FAR even after bombing the sims??

I've done Wiley MCQs over and over everyday for 6 weeks till I got sick of it

(and I actually got sick…gastritis 5 days before my exam date).

I don't want to go over FAR ever again!

    I AM DONE!!

    BEC - 79 (4/30/13)
    FAR - 81 (11/12/13)
    AUD - 83 (4/14/14)
    REG - 75 (8/14/14)

Made a tough decision this morning….canceled my traveling plans I had from from 7/11-7/18. I have to be responsible considering I'm already behind in my study schedule and need to get this test in one shot…guess I will re-allocate those vacation days to study….

More motivation to finish, I can't have another summer like this!

this gives me 8 weeks, I think I can be ready if I focus starting today with no days off…

Is anyone preparing for this exam over an 8 week period?

    AUD - 90 Pass
REG - 70,61,81 Pass DONE DONE DOOOOONNEEE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 79 - Pass
    FAR - 70,82 - Pass

@jiujitsu Unfortunately, it is not possible to pass the exam if you completely bomb the simulations. The only section it is possible to pass just based in mcq is BEC. Sims are my downfall. There are just so many tiny details that they seem to expect you to know, it's insane. Focus on knowing the concepts well. If you know the concepts, hopefully you can do the simulations. That's my theory, at least. And practice, practice, practice! Good luck!
