@3CPAv2 it looks like we are in the same boat but I'm taking mine on July 8th.

I was lucky enough (and worked hard enough) to pass the other 3 on my first try and studying for them was just as miserable as what I am feeling for FAR right now. So, hopefully during my final review everything will start to click. I'm going to try to get ahead this weekend with 3 days off of work.

My 25th birthday is on July 27th, so hopefully as passing score will be my late birthday present. Good luck everybody.

    First time poster, long-time reader.

I'm sitting for FAR sometime, hopefully August. It's my first attempt at any section.

I'm trying to study 20 hours a week, which is about all I can squeeze out with a career and two small kids.

    Fun times! Good luck, all.

Hi everyone. I am scheduled to take FAR on 7/23. I'm using CPAExcel and NINJA combo, although I have the 2012 Becker book to use also for mnemonics and pass tips. I work in tax, so GAAP and IFRS might as well be a foreign language. Good luck everyone!

I'm already feeling overwhelmed from FAR and I'm only in my first week. Aiming for a July 13 test date.

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

    Hey everyone!

My username was est. before I had taken FAR the second time…and I didn't end up passing all 4 before my bday…BUT I'm counting on all of you who still have a chance to actually give yourself your CPA certification by your birthday.

Now, this will be my 3rd time taking FAR. I'm not nervous. I'm pissed off that this is the exam that kept me from my original goal of being a CPA before my bday, so I'm just ready to take.it.DOWN!

I haven't officially scheduled it yet because I'm waiting for CA to get everything settled for me to pay the exam fee. But here's my study plan:

    1) Watch all videos and take notes 2 chapters/week (I plan on completing Ch.3 before next week starts, so I am AHEAD of schedule)

    2) Complete MCQs one chapter and 20 mcqs at a time until I reach 80%

    3) Rewrite my notes or NINJA notes

    4) MCQs, MCQs, MCQs, with a secondary emphasis on SIMS

    5) KILL FAR!!

    Hi all,

I am aiming for the first week in July to sit for FAR. Studying for FAR has been a miserable experience for me. The material is not as fresh as the other parts. Good luck to you all and I hope we get there together.

Hi everyone – first post on this forum. I'm taking FAR on 7/1 which is right before my birthday on 7/3 so I'll continue that trend going on in this thread. This is the first CPA exam I am attempting and I am so stressed over this.

I'm studying with Becker. I'm thinking about purchasing the Wiley Test Bank to supplement Becker. I haven't taken a financial accounting class since graduating college 2 years ago – so to reacquaint myself with the material I went through about half of the lecture back in April to shake some rust off before I started my class – which actually worked better than I thought but I still have a long ways to go.

I'm taking the online course which I started on 5/6 and will complete on June 9. I'm through F-6. My thought process was that it would leave me an extra week to focus on improving my weak areas before I begin my final review.

I'm not sure how to judge how I'm doing on the HW's – not including the short HW topics (< 15 questions) and outside of F-4 (which is by far my strongest area of all the material) I have scored for the most part in the low 60's to mid 70's on my first attempt. For people who have used becker in the past, around what % should I start feeling comfortable with my MC scores?

Almost 3 weeks in, here has been my study program:

    -2 lectures a week

-I Spend no more than 3 days per week on each lecture (watching lecture and doing HWs)

-I've been using the becker flash cards the day after my lecture to try to make as much information as possible “stick”

-I then use the remaining portion of the week to review both chapters and redo the questions I've marked as “difficult” on the HW, then bang out the SIMs, and give myself a weekly progress MC test each Sunday consisting of all chapters I've completed to date in order to try to keep as much material fresh as possible.

With working full time, I'm getting burnt out. I work until 5:30, study each night from 6 until 9 – 10:30 (depending on the material) and try to get into my office at 7 – 7:30 AM to try to bang out some MC's before work. I really needed this Memorial Day weekend to regenerate (I'm also taking off this Tuesday).

Anyways, its nice to know I'm not alone in this – lets kick some ass!

Hey guys! I'm planning on taking FAR in the middle of July. I just started studying the materials and i'm really struggling with F2 – Matching, Foreign Currency Accounting etc… (BECKER). I feel like i understand the materials when i read the text but end up doing really terrible on the MC's! Anyone else struggling with it? any advice or suggestions ?

Manny – From what I've seen 6 lectures in, F-2 is a very broad chapter with a lot of crap.

As you'll see they try to reinforce the BASE formula throughout all the Becker lectures – apply the BASE formula and apply it to every mathematical equation where applicable.

At first I was having trouble with matching questions, and sometimes I couldn't figure out where they were getting the pieces for the BASE formula from – it was like they were pulling them out of their ass! I basically drilled the following into my head to supplement the “BASE” when it comes to matching:

    1) Look at the big picture – BASE formula for Revenues and Expenses:

    Cash collections during period

+ any Decrease in Unearned Revenue

    – any Increase in Unearned Revenue

    – any Decrease in A/R

    + any Increase in A/R

    =Revenue earned in the period

    Cash payments during period

    +any Decrease in Prepaid Expenses

    -any Increase in Prepaid Expenses

    -any Decrease in A/P

    +any Increase in A/P

    =Expenses incurred in period

I'm not sure how I got these to stick, it took some time. I “reasoned” in my head that an increase to the “normal” accounts (A/R and A/P) have the same effect on revenues and expenses and the other two accounts therefore have the opposite effects.

2)Look at the smaller picture – Draw yourself T-Accounts for all of those accounts within the two formulas above (Unearned Revenue, A/R, Prepaid Expenses, and A/P) and make sure you conceptually understand what journal entries will cause increases and decreases to each account balance (Ex/ Beg. A/R + sales – cash received = Ending A/R) so you can apply the BASE formula to a question on a specific account.

it took me a little to master this, but it helped me turn matching into a strength.

Off the top of my head, an area in F-2 which I know I need alot of help in is nonmonetary transactions. If someone has a way that helped them turn this area into a strength of theirs please share! This topic was very frustrating for me!

@NYIACCT89 I like your study plan.. yours is similar to what I used on all the other parts…I was worried that it wouldn't work for FAR though due to the amount of material, but I guess I will see after my BEC exam next week.
