I am scheduling FAR for April 11, 2014.

I am using Becker and this will be my first exam.

At the moment I am on Chapter 2: Long Term Construction Contracts.

My plan is to complete chapter two and review all MCQ and SIMs for Chapter 1 & 2 today & tomorrow.

I never move on from one MCQ testlet to the next until I have at least scored a 85% or better. The first round of questions takes me twice as long as I will re-write the question, look it up in the book and annotate it on a spreadsheet that I missed it. (For 100 questions this can take me four hours). When I retake the section I also annotate the ones that I got right, but then got wrong the second time indicating that I was just lucky and that I need to take a harder look. I always keep this list as an indicator of those questions that just are not sticking. On the side I also have topic questions that are specific to an area. For example Chapter Two, Timing. Handwritten notes include responses to questions that are more to the point than what the book provides, so I make a separate sheet; Impairment, IFRS and cash accrual (cash vs accrual year end adjustments ….which I dislike immensely).

As I said this is my firs go, so only time will tell if it will work. I work full time, and my study hours are from 6 to 10 every night, except Friday night (date night) (I review flashcards an hour before I hit the hay and then take them with me to work to review at lunch time). Then the whole weekend I am locked away except for church on Sunday. YEP…its going to be a long year. The future looks bleak and daunting. I need to get this first one under my belt.

@DL Pratte, your study habits and mine are pretty much the same. Had a friend that studied that same that you did in regards to reviewing the questions until the grade 85% is achieved. She did the mcqs until she achieved 100%. And passed all four parts. So you may be on to something.

@ Zackrampage- I am reviewing notes at much as possible. Rewriting them is too painful for me as I have carpel tunnel in both hands. I am praying that rereading them daily and has the same effect.

    Becker f2-9,

    Royalty Collecitions 180k

Plus: Reduction in unearned royalties 25k

Less: Reduction in royalties receivable: (5k)

    Year 2 royalty income: 200k

What is the underlying concept for why we reduce income by the reduction in royalty receivable? Is it because the 5k would've been recorded as income in the prior period?

@cpahopeful2828 it's because the receivable is already recorded (recognized) as a receivable, yes, in the prior period, so you can't count it twice.

I hope that makes sense and I said it right. I just did Royalties yesterday and it took me a bit to grasp it.

    Here we go 8 hours!

If anyone needs a stress reliever or background noise today, watch/listen to the bald eagle cam. Two of them were born around Christmas time. When I study at work in my car, it's soooo relaxing because we are in a big city but by a canyon so only trains and vehicles pass by. This cam is just vehicle noise & chirping.
