This is my first post to this forum. Although I have been scoping it out for a while and I have found the comments very helpful. The FAR study group…What does that entail, when is it, and how can I join?

Received NTS today, so dates are tentative.

    FAR: April 10, 2014

    REG: July 15, 2014

    AUD: October 15, 2014

My notes say that an expenditure is the actual amount spent. An encumbrance is the original estimate of the cost set aside before the purchase/expenditure was made.

Encumbrance is basically a reserve for the funds against the budget. It's reversed out when you get the actual bill, or pay the invoice. Then it becomes an expenditure.
