@cwobannon, I need desperately a study group as well (Im in Arlington, Tx). Maybe we can all meet on a free conference line or something . Just set a time and section for everyone to be on. And work on problems and sections together and make sure we are all on track! #justathought

@gregt60- I found that doing the simulations brings certain information together that I might not have understood in the MCQs. In certain instances, it has you apply information as a whole.

Well guys. I've made an aggressive study plan to try to be ready by the end of February. It's going to require a LOT of discipline since I took 2.5 months to study for the last two exams and I'm trying to do this in 5.5 weeks, but I think I can do it. I'm on Chapter 8 out of 25 in my Kaplan book and have watched 1 out of 9 videos. I'm seriously considering skipping the videos until I start quizzing and only using them for extra explanation if needed. They are just so boring that I don't feel like I'm really paying much attention. Anyone else not watching videos? I watched them for the last two, but I'm not sure how much they truly helped because I watched the AUD videos in May of last year and passed the test I took in November. I didn't even go back and review my notes from the videos for the retake. I just read the book, took notes, listed to the audio, used the flashcards, and rewrote my notes and quizzed, quizzed, quizzed. I think I'm just doubting using the method I know worked because it's FAR and FAR scares me. There are so many calculations. Remembering content is a lot easier than TVM and the 40 ways to depreciate assets. So videos, yes or no for you?

It's really sad but I have been totally MIA for months. Now that the holidays are behind me and I have started a new job, I feel ready to make the commitment and finish what I started. 2 more exams to go…2014 is my year! 🙂

Now to reschedule my FAR exam

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

@CPAMommyof3 – No videos for me, for the same reasons you listed. Too slow and boring. I listen to the audio during my commute to work and back home, then speed read the chapter, do MCQs, T & F. I write my notes and calculations out. And the calculations I have difficulty with, I do over and over every couple of days. I just feel like I don't have the patience to sit and watch video instruction.

@CPAMommy Definitely videos for me! It is very painful, but I actively take notes and challenge myself to write fast (not hit pause) so I don't fall asleep. I did not watch the videos for audit because it is what I do for a living and I know working the MCQs right away was the way to go, but FAR has so much info that I think it's worth it to watch the videos one round.

Hi CPAMommy – I also threw out the videos – I feel I get more out of reading and taking the notes. Amay's approach is good too, but I feel better with reading and “drawing out” what I read. I make diagrams and organize the material on the page and it helps it stick.

    Good luck to you!

    AUD: 82* Expired; 90
    BEC: 77
    REG: 72,87
    FAR: 72, 68, 87
