AnonymousInactiveWOAH! There should be no reason not to be able to attend a Christmas party. You gotta get your brain out of this crap for a few hours or else you will go bonkers. Yesterday I almost had my first breakdown. I looked at all of the little “post it” things sticking out of the pages (they all represent flashcards) and I wanted to cry.

splinter1643Member@michaelabs22: You asked about the hardest and easiest sections of FAR.
For me, the hardest ones have been the chapters I can quickly forget. Those would be, in Becker terms, F7 – Stockholder's Equity, and F8-Government. I also have trouble understanding intercompany activities.
Easiest chapters were F1-F4, which related to the income statement, accounting changes and consolidations and acquisitions (except for intercompany activity). For these I just happened to figure out a way to get the questions right on a consistent basis.
The other chapters were in between; there was a good mix of sections I needed to re-study and those I just needed to do problems for.

KatydidMemberT -23 Days. I ended up listing all of the sections and subsections in a spreadsheet, listing the total questions in each section and the amount I got correct. I did a weighted average of my weakest areas and am starting with those sections for review. I also identified the sections that contain the greatest number of questions per total. I honestly don't feel that I'm going to retain all of this so I'm trying to pinpoint both the weaker areas and those typically tested more heavily.
For review, I'm starting with an overview. I make flashcards for the major mnemonics. Then go back and do my own outline with corresponding notes. Redo the MCQs I got wrong and write down the answers if I get them wrong again. Then the simulations. Rewrite the notes. And every morning I do a 10 question progress test (I should do 30 but don't get up early enough for that). I'll go back and write down any that I may have gotten wrong.

franbranParticipantI plan on taking the FAR section in February. I am going through the lectures and then answering the questions. Every time I start studying and get into a routine I lose my motivation. Then I start slacking, forget what I learned and have to start over. Hopefully being part of this group will keep me motivated. Also, if anyone is in the North Jersey area and looking for a study buddy, let me know. Perhaps even a small study group.

hollisterMemberI used Becker to review and honestly, was not strong in FAR stuff at all. I would watch the video, take a break, and then read the chapter for no more then an hour. After that I would work the MC and I wrote out for EVERY question WHY I got it right or wrong. I would repeat the process for every question I got wrong until I had the HW 100% completed. Then, I would quickly go through the sims and write them out and read to understand the concepts.
For my final review, I skimmed through the chapters and looked for any concepts I didn't understand & wrote them out. I even read that if you can make up a story (silly, I know) with the concept you can't ever seem to remember that you will be more likely to recall the concept on game day.
But even after all that there were 3 sims I had no idea how to work. But I left myself nearly 2 hrs for the sims so I was able to look up the concepts in the codification to work up an idea of how to do it.

pugloverMemberOk I could really use some advice. I took FAR back in November and didnt pass and now I am coming up to losing credit on BEC on 3/31/13. I've scheduled to take FAR on 2/24. I could really use some advice and best practices. I have been taking the CPA exam for over 2 years now and on average it takes me three times to pass a part. I ahve three parts completed and just need to nail FAR. Any advice is much appreciated.

MelansMemberReal quick I just need to vent—
Why won't my brain read the question actually on the paper and not what I think its asking- I would get soooo many more questions right, if I would actually read the question. UGHHHH….

LSNYCMemberMelans – I hear you on that one! During my last exam every time I felt my self not reading the question I stopped wrote read in huge letters on my paper and started the question over. It must have helped. I'm trying it during studying now too.
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

MelansMemberLSNYC – good thought, I may impose that on myself. I also need a system to pay closer attention to the dates. So I will quit calculating a full year of income or whatever, when the question clearly says the entity sold X on July 1. I guess writing dates down?
