Those foreign exchange questions are a red flag to me. It's a flag that says, “read slow and take your time” those questions are simple but are only difficult when you rush through them.

Ugh… I just tried to work through a consolidation sim and got my butt whooped. All of the eliminating entries! I just don't know how we are supposed to know this.

CAR IN BIG: eliminate investee's capital stock, APIC and beg RE, eliminate Investment in account and record NCI, record balance sheet adjustments, intangible items adjustments and goodwill.

Back in school I was taught just JEs for consolidations but since Becker had nicely combined them into easy mnemonic, I've used it to prepare for FAR.

Thanks SeattleAccountant! I've seen the CAR IN BIG mnemonic but have never tried it, or fully understood it. (I'm a Yaeger girl).

I'll go back to that SIM and see if I can't work through it 🙂 I will actually be VERY excited if it “clicks” for me.

That SIM just scared me stoooopid, lol.

I'm going to do some morning review then visit family tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening time for a full blown practice exam. Why am I so nervous? Over 2 weeks away and the anxiety hit me today.

I'm a firm proponent of the CARinBIG mnemonic.

Definitely give it a try. Makes those consolidation questions sooooo simple. You just write out the journal entry and the rest is a piece of cake.

I love learning by journal entry btw (if you couldn't already tell lol!)

Are you taking exam on 02.28.13 ? We still have some time and can make use of it..

As per me… in my first revision: i have quickly gone through all lectures , and did a quick attempt of MCQS ( In which i was lost). In my second revision those topics are making some sense.. i have covered chapter 1 to 3 with notes and second attempt to MCQS.

Todays paln: i have to complete few topics in chapter 3 and finish chapter 4..

Let's do it sillipanda.. whats your plan? <3 u xxxx

Well my goal is to be a CPA by the time I get married HAHAHA! Great goals. I am still pretty comfortable with most topics from last time so I am going to do Chatper 4 today and part of Chapter 8. Skipping around because I have some work work to do today and know I won't have a ton of focus on it. I am still testing on the 28th. I have to. I was supposed to have Audit on the 15th but that will not happen. My own fault. Good luck today and I will check back tonight and update what I actually got done but I am motivated …. it has to get done!!!

i was born and raised as a becker but moved to yaeger so i will translate CAR IN BIG

CAR (Common stock, APIC, RE) is the sub's BV, this is step 1 in the wiley book where they talk about the worksheet; as mentioned these are all debits

IN (Investment in sub, Noncontrolling interest) Investment in sub is the acquisition cost, Noncontrolling interest is if you bought less than 100% of the sub, if you bought 100% of the sub you don't have to worry about this part; these are all credits

the difference in “CAR” and “IN” is what yaeger and wiley calls the “differential” and has a normal debit balance (i guess you can think of it as a plug)

BIG (BS diffs from BV to FV, Intangibles, GW) is the Step 2 in the wiley book which says to close out the “differential” account. Phil said to do this by crediting the “differential” account and debiting the “B”(BS diffs from BV to FV) and “I”(Intangibles like trademarks and patents) and then pluging the GW
