    Hello there djmckinney!

Welcome!! This is a great forum discussion to be a part of. So you've got about 13 weeks to get prepared. I have Becker, so I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the format of Wiley and Yaeger. All I can really say is make sure you have a study plan. I know it may seem like a trivial thing to say, but I can't think of anything better you could do to prepare.

And once you make a study plan (I would make sure to leave AT LEAST 2 weeks of pure MCQs and Simulations before the exam), you need to find a study schedule that works for you and your family. Once you do pass this exam, it will be a victory for not only yourself, but for those around you who have supported you through the whole process. It will take sacrifices.

Do you have any specific questions in mind?

    @djmckinney –

I can help answer some Yaeger questions for you.

I highly recommend downloading the VLC player and watching the videos on that instead of through a web browser. Using VLC you can adjust the playback speed. I play Phil videos at 1.3 speed, Gary at 1.5 and Cindy usually at the normal pace. However, she is talking a lot slower that she used to, so sometimes I speed it up to 1.1 or 1.2.

Also, there is A LOT of information. Don't get stuck on one topic as you watch the videos and work the homework. Just get through it all. Get a general understanding and force yourself to keep moving. Once you have completed all the videos you will want to go back through and review each topic. This is what most people refer to as a final review.

That is when you will want to get into the nitty gritty details and make sure you have full comprehension of the topics. Also, you should start using the Wiley Test Bank at this point making practice sessions. The Wiley TB will not only test your comprehension of major concepts, but will ask a lot of random questions to help expose you to additional tid bits that could mean an easy point here or there on the exam. I am leaving 3 weeks for this final review.

    Hey Everyone,

Do you guys think its possible to pass FAR with just doing the MCQs and Simulations? Has anyone done it? I don't have enough time to read/study the whole book before my exam.

P.S. my exam is on Feb 25th

Anyone got a good way to memorize which rate to use for foreign currency translation or remeasurement? I can't seem to have it down…

@ jimmy520, I've been trying to think of mnemonics. I'm not very creative, so it's been hard. I know there's online mnemonics generators that you can try. Right now, I'm just remembering the intials of Weighted Average, Current Rate and Historical and order:

Translation starts with Income Statement, then Balance Sheet: WCH

Remeasurment starts with Balance Sheet, then Income Statement: CHWH

I'm getting nervous. My exam is on 2/15 and I'm on F7 right now. I can't seem move through these chapters any faster than one every 2 days (and that's the absolute fastest). Being realistic, I probably won't have more than 7 days to review before the exam, and I haven't been doing progress tests/reviewing older chapters.

    Do I have enough time?

    F - 86
    R - 90
    A - 97
    B - 91

    gobias:

I think you have enough time if you don't also have a full time job and can completely dedicate your days to review for the last week.

If you do work, you may have to decide if it's worth taking a week off from work for the week before the exam. At least that way the test will hopefully be done with before busy season is over.

In general, I am always an advocate for rescheduling…but if you work in public accounting and you want to extend it past February, you won't be able to take it until the middle or end of April…it's a tough call.

    Hi Jam05,

I am using becker review so I will provide my opinion based on that.

I don't think the MCQ can be done without studying the material. you should read the book or find notes that summarize the content.Becker review has flashcards and final review book that highlights the topics you need to focus on.

You can find another options that help you in your preparation.

    Hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, but I have been reading stuff off of here for weeks now. I just decided I would register and participate in everything.

I'm currently studying for FAR (using Becker Self-Study) and I just finished leases today. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but I'm a little worried about going over bonds tomorrow.

It seems that the consensus on this forum is to study and learn the material by watching lectures, taking notes, and doing countless MCQs. That is what I have been doing – some days are better than others though. One day I will be on a role and doing so well, but other days I get so frustrated and bent out of shape about the material.

Nevertheless, it is off to reviewing bonds tomorrow!

    @lbi

bonds are not difficult once you pound the journal entries into your head.

When i was going through the becker mcq for that section, I would write out the journal entry for every single problem regardless if I had to or not. This allowed me to visualize the debits and credits and really made the concept so much easier.

    Good luck!!!!

I am so tired. Reading/Watching Lectures at night for more than an hour isn't working for me. I think I'm going to start getting up at 5am to study. I figured if I workout first (to wake me up), then study for 2 hours before work, then maybe I can stay awake. If anyone has an tips on staying awake and actually concentrating on the lectures/reading, please share.

Sounds like a solid plan to me 23!

Congrats on sitting for your first exam. I hope AUD treats you well.

FAR is a beast, soooo much more to know when compared to AUD.

But there is some relief (at least for me) because of the computational portion. I think multiple choice questions are easier for calculations than theory. And I like the calculations if FAR.

Just remember once you start. Stick to your plan and keep pushing until you get to the final review.

Like Peetree mentions above. Once you get there it's cause for celebration, lol!
