AnonymousInactiveGuys – Can someone explain “Net of Tax” for me; is it saying that the gain / loss computed , tax factored in, the the NET reported? Obviously it doesn't mean not paying the tax.
January 14, 2013 at 11:03 pm #399695
gobiasMemberIt means it's reported after taxes. So calculate the G/L and adjust for the tax effect before reporting on the financial statements. Gross of tax means it's reported before tax effects. Sales are reported gross of tax for example (i.e. before the income tax expense line of the income statement). On the other hand, G/L on discontinued operations and extraordinary items are reported net of tax.

Hey everyone! I have been a background reader on this forum since the beginning of the month… and must say you all are so inspiring. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one struggling through all this FAR business! I watched the lecture for pensions today and was like WTF! Ugggg… and I thought leases and bonds were painful…
First exam Feb. 28th! (FAR obviously…)

You guys can do this! Pensions aren't that bad. I don't know if this will help you with the JEs but I like to think about how there MUST be a tax affect for pretty much everything in FAR. So when you're thinking about the JEs for pensions, you must also account for the deferred tax affect. And if you are comfortable with the concept of DTAs and DTLs then your JEs should be right on point. And when all else fails MAKE YOUR OWN JE FLASHCARDS!
@Nam
I hope you are feeling more confident lately. How many more chapters do you need to go over before your test on the 14th? If you're feeling like you're falling behind, you should put yourself on LOCKDOWN from now until test day or the day before. You will be fine π Just keep going over all the material you studied so far every couple of days. Keep it all fresh

peetreeMemberI just finished F1 & 2 and got a 90% on my progress test. I'm moving onto F3 and am real nervous as I hear this is where things start to make your head spin.
Good luck today my fellow far friends

MCLKTParticipantre-took AUD today and I'm onto to re-take FAR on 2/28.
You all have a great Study Group thread going here!
I see some familiar names that I have personally been rooting for π
This is funny, I feel like I just got transferred to a new class.
If anyone feels like sharing their restudying techniques I would love to hear them. I think FAR is different in that I can't see myself sitting through 50+ hours of videos again. (Yaeger).

AnonymousInactive@MCLKT:
Welcome! I hope you crushed Audit π As for my personal re-study plan, I started from the back of the book this time around because #1 I didn't realize just how much gov't and NFP stuff was going to be tested and #2 because the material was in the back of the book, I don't think I gave it as much attention as it needed my first go around. So chapter by chapter (starting with Ch. 10) I am writing notes, reading my notes, doing a sampling of MCQs (because I don't want to waste time going through ALL of them…i'll save that for the last week before exam day) and doing the SIMS. After each additional chapter I go back over my notes for chapters that I've previously studied and then do a “backwards” progress test (I noticed that if you set the progress tests in increments of 10 for each chapter, you can go to Ch.10 and skip to the questions you want to be tested on)
For example: If I have studied Ch. 6-10 and I want to do a progress test on just these chapters, I will go to the Ch. 10 progress test, set the # of questions to 100 and then skip to # 60 because I'm pretty sure that's where all of the material is I want to be tested on)
Anyway…sorry for the long-winded-ness of this post…but hey…I figured I'd share.
Hope this helps π
P.S. I'm using Becker

TncincyParticipantOmg!!! I have been going at it all day and I feel like I have accomplished alot, but when I look at what I need to cover I just want to go to bed. Oh Boy, this is really a long process. Maybe i'm trying too hard….but I must go on. Please somebody find an easy way to do this…..I'm not getting a lot of mcq's right and I can't copy all the questions with the answers (should I?)…..I have cpaexcel and wiley books. Help!!!!!!

TncincyParticipantNevermind….I just read Noct's study strategy again. It doen't matter if I don't get mcq's right, I can keep doing them as many times as necessary…..I think Im going to print off her strategy and stick it on my note pad to read and re-read when I feel like I am NOT ACCOMPLISHING ANYTHING…… This is my second early day, no real business til the 30th so I studied all day at the office, schools closed early due to an ice storm, so I closed shop and headed home too. Ice storms are a big deal in rural tn. and I thought I was really productive today….
sorry for the rant far fam…..back to studying for maybe another hour. I'll get it. I am determined.

peetreeMemberI totally understand where you're coming from, If I'm going through a multiple choice on the becker for the first time and I get below a 75%. I get really frustrated.
Just remember that you are learning and it is going to pay off come test date.

MCLKTParticipant@cpa4bday I really like the idea to start at the back and focus on heavily covered topics. I have outlined starting with Gov't/NFP/BondsLeases/Pensions/CFS/SHE then go back to the beginning and work through each module.
Thanks!
