AnonymousInactiveGreetings FAR friends 🙂 Sadly, I am planning my FAR retake for end of January or beginning of February. I'm pleased with the improvement on my score, but am definitely not feeling motivated to restudy. Any other “restudiers” out there?
Has anyone used CPAreviewforfree to practice SIMs? Someone on the forum mentioned it was a good SIM practice aid.
My plan for restudy:
1. Rewrite/retype/redigest my notes from the Yaeger full course
2. Do MCP's until . . . well until I can't do anymore
3. Work on practicing SIMs
@tncincy @kickash I used the Roger CRAM along with Ninja notes and Wiley test bank on my last attempt. I liked Roger's style and I found it helped to give me a different perspective on the material. I do not recommend using the Roger CRAM instead of another course, but recommend using it along with another full course. Roger covers major topics quickly in the CRAM and glosses over many details that are important. It is fast paced and if you have not already learned the concepts from a full course you will likely miss something or get confused.

michaelabs22MemberI have been super lazy too this past week. I feel that if I kick it into gear for the next 2 1/2 weeks I should be able to get through the rest of the material and give myself a good week and a half of pure review. (MCQsimsMCQsimsMQCsimsMC..sim..)
On the flip side I really don't want to have to study for FAR again. I've been trying to pass all four sections before busy season starts. I had planned on taking FAR 1/11/13, then REG 2/28 (about 1 1/2 weeks of long hours at work and reviewing for REG when I can) to try to get it done. For now that is still the plan but I'm falling a little behind on FAR. Ugh.

splinter1643MemberHi all, this question has been confusing me:
“Lee, Inc. acquired 30% of Polk Corp's voting stock on January 1, Year 1, for $100,000. During Year 1, Polk earned $40,000 and paid dividends of $25,000. Lee's 30% interest in Polk gives Lee the ability to exercise significant influence over Polk's operating and financial policies. During Year 2, Polk earned $50,000 and paid dividends of 415,000 on April 1, and $150,000 on October 1. Only July 1, Year 2, Lee sold half its stock on Polk for $66,000 cash.
What should be the gain on sale of this investment in Lee's Year 2 income statement?”
I'm stuck on how the carrying value is calculated. Becker's solution states that you would add year 1 income and dividends (based on 30% ownership) to the purchase price. You would also add HALF of year 2 income (or 1/2 x 50,000 x 30%) and the full year 2 dividend paid out (15,000 x 30%). I'm confused. Why aren't we adding half of the dividend paid out, or 1/2 x 15,000 x 30%?

MelansMember@DPhysics-
I have 2011 for current study materials, I am told the info hasn't changed. Do know that people with current materials will talk about 10 chapters, but rumor has it the 10th chapter is composed of all the ancillary material for our information. You should be good to go.

MelansMember@ Splinter – dividends were paid on two different dates. $15,000 wasn't paid for the full year, just a portion of the year- that's why. Be careful with the dates they always get me too.

I agree. My test is next month and I am not even done with all the chapters. Its like never ending amount of information that I need to shove it into my brain.
Also, when I do the multiple questions, they are so long…….and then I get sick of reading the question carefully and make stupid mistakes. Arg

MsMathWizMemberDavidB, dont worry, just keep grinding. I am using Becker and on Ch7 and my exam is a few days after yours. For some reason, I feel a NEED to listen to the lectures and they're taking me forever. With the questions, I bang them out with 70s. Look at my mistakes and read the explanation then I go back and work it out the right way. Second time around im hitting in the high 90's. Im a visual learner and I need to write everything down and see it to understand it……if thats not the slowest type of learning, I dont know what is. I wish I could listen and get all the MCQ right without having to take so many notes.

AnonymousInactive@david and msmathwiz : I underestimated FAR and left few chapters in my first attempt. It was not very wise decision . I was struggling in my third testlet and was guessing evey question.. If you think you are unprepared ; there is no harm rescheduling … Give yourself atleast 2 weeks for revising .. You won't be surprised that you gona forget half of the information ,you jus learnt a week ago….
Ok so I have cleaned my study room and organized all my notes and books lol . Ha ha ha coz there gona be some serious study next week … Lol
Happy study to all

AnonymousInactiveI would love to move my exam up, but Busy Season is starting (my first one) and I won't have the energy to study and work that much, as well as find time to go out and have fun. (Yes, I am going out, Busy Season isn't taking over my Saturday nights!)
If I manage to pass one of the 2 exams (other one being aud, on just 6 days of studying mind you LOL) I will be very happy.
Ready for my CPA nightmare to end.

HustlinHustlinMemberLooks like we are all having motivation problems. I was able to get in around 2.5 hours yesterday and finish lecture notes on F1. Could not get out of bed for the life of me today, though. Its one of the slowest weeks of the year at work so I hope to get in some quality time.
Think about your motivators! Mine are to be a free woman by Summertime and be able to get back into running and going to the gym (this whole process made me put on a few and totally fell out of shape).
I know one thing is for sure. I do NOT want to go through any more retakes!!!

HustlinHustlinMemberI plan on taking it Mid-February, so I have a good 7 weeks. In the past, I studied it over 3 months and BOMBED! I think it is important to find a healthy balance with enough time to cover the info but not too much to where you start to forget it.
Don't freak out about feeling unprepared. I don't think I have ever felt fully prepared. Each exam is a mile wide but an inch deep.
