tmturner74MemberIs it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.
I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!
Aud- 11/28/12 (72), 02/27/13 (72), 04/06/2013 77!!

PennsylvaniaNightsMemberHey guys, after reading through everyones posts apparently I am the odd ball out because I do phenomenal on the FAR sims and I do horrible on the MCQs!!! I just started (only two topics in) going through all of the modules in Wiley one at a time doing at least 20 MCQs each and not moving on until I get over 70% on the section. I take FAR in two days and am hoping this will help strengthen my chance at beating FAR so I wont have to look back again!!
By the way the Ninja Blitz that Jeff just released is a great help! I have listened to the whole thing once and Plan on listening to if not the whole thing quite a few of my iffy sections again before my test on Tuesday.

lmendez2MemberHi Monty! I am taking the test the same day as you and I do not feel confident at all I am in the process of reviewing all my notes and the book (starting government and NFP tonight) but I stopped taking progress test since they discourage me and give me panic attacks so hopefully avoiding them and using the time to understand the concepts will help me! I wish you the best!

MustPass1988MemberTook 2 days off of studying to enjoy the weekend (ok, I studied for 2 hours this morning and an hour yesterday morning) and my test is on Wednesday….feeling a little stressed but I plan on studying at least 8 hours tomorrow. Plus, my brain felt like it was going to explode! Ugh, can't wait to be done!

montyMember@lmendez2 I don't feel that confident ether but I am not backing down now. It is full speed from this point (cram stage). I will recommend you do progress test to lean how to manage your test anxiety.
I get a lot of anxiety before test like this but the more practice test I take before helps me feel better.
I did my practice test yesterday and got a 52% (not good) but at least I was glad to see how am currently managing my time, practice with the actual test calculator, noted some of my bad habits like answering before RTFQ and most important I learn from all the answers that I got wrong.
I have to be honest with my self and know that at this point there are some calculations that I will just not be able to understand and that to time consuming for me to redo them.
At this point my strategy is to go over all the conceptual MCQ that I have marked because I get the wrong answer and re do this to quickly read the explanation until I basically memories the answer.
Perhaps not the best strategy but that is my plan and I am sticking to it.

AnonymousInactiveJust got my FAR score on the 23 and got 74… so disappointed specially my AUD will expires July 5th and taking BEC this window… Any advice?
May 27, 2013 at 3:03 pm #418129
montyMember@azamato For what I understand if you take the FAR test on July 1 and PASS you will not have to retake AUD if you can commit, take some time off work, I would take both BEC and FAR before Jun 5th but not on the same day. Take FAR 1st and then take BEC like 2 days apart. I have heard that those 2 subjects go well together. FAR is still fresh in your mind and perhaps you can see the details in yor FAR score to determin what particular areas you should focuse more of your attention. but at the same time don't neglect BEC.. I would put all my chips into studying hard this month of Jun so you do not have to study for AUD again for of wich I now it has changed since you took it 18 months ago

AnonymousInactive@monty thanks for the advice… to any one who is taking the FAR exam next couple of days.. if you study Becker… F10 simulations are important…

kels417Member@monty…I'm right there with you. Also struggling with the calculations for bonds and leases. Spent all day yesterday redoing all of the questions for a third time and rereading the chapter. I feel a bit more comfortable, but I'm sure will still panic if i see more than a couple questions on the exam.
What is everyone doing for a final review? I have 4 full days left (exam is Friday). I was planning on redoing all mcq, but I am only on Ch. 6 today and don't want to waste all of my time only on mcq. Was hoping to get another practice exam in there, maybe to see how I'm doing with time management and to practice the sims some more. Now i'm thinking today, I'll finish up Ch. 6 mcq and then review sims today/tomorrow, flashcards whenever possible, and maybe a progress test Wednesday? Or practice exam? And reviewing the AICPA released questions and trying to memorize as many formulas as possible. There's so much to know! Overwhelmed just thinking about it.
Any advice for my final days from those of you who have successfully taken FAR already??

AnonymousInactive@kels417 if you are studying Becker, study F1 Sim and F1 AICPA MCQ's including the 2013 issued MCQ's, then F2,3 all the way to F10. Then the 2 final exam.. if you have time read the differences between the IFRA vs. GAAP after each chapter or answer the 65 MCQ's in F10..and remember sim's are 40% of the exam.. Good luck!

jgrfan1MemberI am taking FAR on Wed at 8AM.
Took the practice exam in the back of the Wiley Book on Sat (It was the only set of MC in the book or WTB that I had not seen). Got a 74% on the MC (straight fraction, no weighting for hard/medium questions) and did well enough on the SIMs that I think I would have passed. It was great practice in surpressing panic b/c the first 10 questions on the 1st and 3rd MC testlet I could feel myself bombing. Just stayed the course and answered 1 MC at a time. You have to be like a shut down corner on the MC. Once you make a selection, you really have to have confidence or it will haunt you on the other questions. Spent the entire day Sunday rereading Govt and doing MC. Starting a 2 day review today of all notes. No more MC except maybe a 30-60 that I got wrong in WTB if I feel gittery. At this point I've done about 3K MC. Don't see a ton of additional value in doing more. In my final review, I'm focusing on Business Combos, Derivs, Equity, Def Tax and Investments.
The hay is in the barn at this point. I know it or I don't. I've studied harder for this one that the previous ones I feel like. Def more volume but I can taste the end and I want this to be over. At this point I am running full speed into the FAR wall and praying that I have what it takes to bust through.
Good luck to all studying on Memorial day and taking FAR the last week of May.

montyMemberI have been working this Sims and O’l boy… I just like how everything is tying together at the end. I just hope I am able to keep it all bottled up in my head to proficiently vomited all out on exam day…
Since this is Memorial Day and I am a service member (Army all the way). I tell my self that Wednesday is my D day.
And all I hope is that history does not repeat itself and that my questions on the FAR test do not compare to the open machine guns that fired upon our American Soldiers on the beaches of Normandy. LOL back to NFP

AnonymousInactiveI'm taking FAR on May 30th for the 2nd time. Can anyone clarify for me when foreign currency items go into OCI and when they enter into income from continuing opertations? I know that for PU(F)R the foreign currency items are in OCI, but in the foreign currency denominations section in becker, changes in exchange rates result in FX gains and losses that enter into income from continuing operations.
Correct me if I am wrong:
Foreign currency translations : OCI
Foreign currency transactions : NI
Foreign currency hedges- Fair Value: NI
Foreign currency hedges- Cash Flow: OCI
Thanks
