Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

Just checked my score and man am I relieved!!! Barely passed with 80! However my advice is try as much as possible to concentrate on getting the concepts on your finger tips because at least from my point of view I was surprised at the number of questions that basically tested for one's understanding of the concepts. Good luck to all. Audit's next!!!

What are the ninja notes exactly? I think I'm going to add them to this section but just wondering what they are exactly. Is it just pages of notes?

    Thanks peeps

Roach, yea I'm using Yaeger and Wiley. I'm a believer in Yaeger, I passed my first section after switching to Yaeger and I love Cindy. Phil is a little too scattered and can be frustrating to watch, but you will get the concepts with him too. I study slower than most people so maybe I am less frustrated by the pace. The first mod is big, then you have to get up to and through mod 13, then you will start feeling like you're making progress. Stick with it!

8 days till test day and I'm feeling nervous. I have had to go back and “relearn” everything. I just began F4 and I do not know if I will finish in time. I'm scoring pretty good on MC's (High 70's & 80's) but this is with me making reference to my notes with all those formulas on it.

I am loosing motivation. I'm so scared to take the test and get that failing grade again.

todd6414 I have purchased all 3 for FAR, the Audio the Notes and just started looking at the videos.. they all have basically the same information it is just presented differently. It just depends on what type of learner are you.

I am a visual and audio learner, I am also lazy by nature so there is no way in hell that I will read or wright the 108+ pages of the Ninja notes.

I started to write the first 20 pages during one of my work meetings and after writing 20 pages, I opt to listing to what was being said in the meeting instead (this is both unusual and infrequent)..

But the notes are good if you want to print them out or read them on your smart phone or IPad like I do.

I really like the audio, so I can listen on my commute to and from work. and the new videos are also good if you have time to look at the videos on your smart phone or Ipad like I do.. and all 3 options are about the same price.

allsgood we are in the final stretch, there is no time for half stepping… Now is the time to go pedal to medal… Ms. Doubt is Mr. failure’s best friend so DON'T associate yourself with her..

In many areas of competition, the difference between 1st place and 2nd place is a few seconds (or in this case a few points).

These extra few seconds and few points are obtain by this final stretch of preparation.

Don’t waist not even one more second.. LOL by the way back to my studying since I should practice what I preach … May 2013 is our day to concur FAR

@oblio, hey thanks for the feedback. I'm actually going to finish up the first mod today and do a few mcqs… I feel better after finishing the financial statement section. And yeah I know what you mean about phil… cindy is okay.

@ ROACH I have used Yaeger and Wiley and also found the first module to be extremely frustrating. I am generally much better with theoretical concepts than calculations, but 9A had me going back to college textbooks just to figure out what they were talking about. I found that once I pretty much “gave up” on 9A, things started making more sense as I got to 9D.

And I also agree with @oblio that Phil is more frustrating to understand than Cindy. I'm hoping things will start to come together, but I'm actually stating NIU CPA Review in June anyway. I've just been using old Yaeger materials to study until my live class starts.

    Good luck!

Does anyone else find cash flows to be extremely confusing? It's probably the only section that I truly just dont understand. I can do a problem that asks me to calculate the cash flows for the financing section or something simple like that but if I was given a sim on cash flows, especially the direct method, I would fail miserably.

I am going out of my mind with the following question and don't know if I am missing something or Wiley is wrong. It may be that I have spent way too much time on deferred taxes and my brain is just fried:

As a result of differences between depreciation for financial reporting purposes and tax purposes, the financial reporting basis of Noor's depreciable asset, acquired in year 3, exceeded its tax basis by $250k at 12-31-x3. This difference will reverse in future years. The enacted tax rate is 30% for year 3 and 40% for future years. Noor has no other temporary differences. In its 12-31×3 B/S, how should Noor report the deferred tax effect of this difference?

    Wiley's Answer: $100,000 liability

Why isn't this an asset?! If the book depr is more than tax depr, doesn't that mean book income is less than taxable income? And if I am paying more taxes NOW, doesn't that mean less later which makes an asset? Or am I just thinking of this bass ackwards?

Any help would be much appreciated!

@MustPass1988 You're not alone. I find cash flows very confusing too! I can tie one out, but I am not sure if I can create one. We will find out when I get to that section of the FAR materials! When I tie out a cash flow, I start with the balance sheet changes. It's easiest to start there and then adjust.

“It is depreciable assets exceed it tax basis by $ 250 K”, I think it means book value of the assets is is more by $ 250K. and not the depreciation. In that case the answer will be correct

@camoflauge i think you're supposed to think of it in a similar way you would think of income. If book income>tax income than its a deferred liability. That's definitely a tricky question
