tmturner74MemberIs it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.
I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

loguecoParticipantI just finished my first practice test and passed, but I'm not exactly excited about my performance.
I averaged a 76% on the MCQs which is disheartening, but of the questions I got wrong there were only a few that I really struggled with. Most of my wrong answers were easy mistakes or ones where I narrowed it down to two answers and knew it was one of them, but made the wrong choice. The rest were things that came out of left field that I didn't include in my notes anyway because they were pretty obscure.
I'm going to do a quick revision of the topics that I wasn't the strongest on and then take the second test and hope for better results.
Anyone else in the practice exam stage? What are you scoring like?
People say the Becker practice exams are harder than the actual one, so hopefully this a good start. I can't wait for the exam to be over tomorrow afternoon.

My exam is next week and I did all ch twice…did them very well on MCQ…thought of doing sims at the end …now i am reviewing n thought of doing the marked MCQs first..most of them r wrong now…not able to concentrate or may be anxious…don't kno what to do…how to gather myself…supporting words from FAR fam might be of help…I want to pass this time..
can't decide if i shud go ahead with sims n then do the MCQ or vice versa.

loguecoParticipant@Qlad Don't get down on yourself, a week is a ton of time to have left to hammer home the details. I've come leaps and bounds in the last week or so.
First thing you need to do is take a step back and see where you are. Re-working the MCQs really helped me get a better understanding of everything so I'd say start there. If there are any chapters you are feeling very confident on don't bother wasting your time on them by going back over ALL the MCQs, I'd suggest just doing a progress test for that section and move on (as long as you are still confident). SInce you've already taken FAR once you are probably pretty familiar with the sims, but you should do a couple just to get better acquainted with them.
The most important thing is to try not to get overly anxious/stressed (something I'm very bad at myself) because that is just wasting time and energy. Take some time to collect yourself and hash out a plan and get started on it. You can always adjust it based on how you are feeling and the speed you are going at, but you aren't going to make any progress until you start. Start with the stuff you are weakest with and move on from there. Every question you get wrong and then understand why is adding to your score because you won't make that mistake again.
Once you start making some progress you will feel a million times better and more confident.

AnonymousInactiveAwee Qlad!! I know the feeling… Don't let this discourage you .. I know there is so much information to retain.
But You CAN DO it!! Jus sit back, take deep breath, then make notes, and be confidence ..;)
All the best !!

AnonymousInactiveQlad! You've got this! Be confident and make sure you understand the concepts! You'll do great!

loguecoParticipantJust finished my second practice exam and I'm now pretty worried. I think I got exactly a 75 with my MCQ score being a 74.
The majority of the questions I got wrong are the ones that drive me up the wall because they are stupid little rules that I can never keep track of and am pretty sure I have no hope of remembering anyway unless I get pretty much the same question and even then its shaky.
I know your score is supposed to improve from the practice test to the actual one, but I'm now extremely panicky/worried that I'm going to fail. I was expecting to do considerably better and my confidence is gone now.

montyMemberlogueco I wish I was getting 75…. I am stuck on bonds and not doing good at all..
I am doing 20 set practice MCQ for each section and then continue to do MCQ for the whole section until I get 70% to 80% to move on to the next section.
Since this morning I have been working on F-4 in Becker, Bonds and Leases.
When I did my 20 set MCQ this morning I got a 35%!!!
I have been working on all the MCQ of this section to retake some time tonight, so I can then move on the next section if I get a 70% or more.
It is frustrating because all that I have been studding for this since the April 1st, each time I review the next section is like it is almost new to me, I get paralyzed and sometimes I canโt even think of what to do next on some of this questions… I really hope this does not happen to me during test day so I better get back to work.. LOL
I sit for this on the 29th of May and I have no confidence at ALL… I feel like I am moving like a snail…
I took the whole week off from work to just do this… Studyโฆ
My body does not want to study no more, I am tired and I am sick of reading this foreign language…
But my mind knows that I will be hart broken if after putting in all these hours, I donโt pass this testโฆ So I just keep my head down, keep doing these MQC, take deep breaths and keep plugging in chugging…
Back to work

MustPass1988MemberMonty- I almost feel better reading that because I feel the same way. I also started studying at the beginning of April and I feel like I'm forgetting a lot. I have been doing random 30 question quizzes covering all the topics I've covered each day to refresh topics and one of the questions, I dont even remember studying. Of course, I had studied it, it was just a 12 minutes lecture with 10 MCQ's so I did it in 30 min and forgot it all. Super frustrating. I still have NFP and business condsolidations to finish and then it's review, review, review, even tho I've been reviewing the whole time I've been studying new topics. I'm so tired of spending so much time studying only to come back and try to review and have to relearn it.

MustPass1988MemberFor people taking FAR soon or recently taken it…which areas did you not focus on as heavily while studying? I am having a really hard time deciding which items to hammer away at in my review. As of now, I've done all the homework for every section but the areas I'm not really strong in are construction contract methods, installment sales method, factoring, and segment reporting. What areas are you guys not focusing on as heavily in order to adequately review the most important topics (leases, governmental, etc)?

montyMemberMustPass1988 one of my co-workers (who is a CPA) told me that when it is your first time sitting for g FAR, that it is best to focus on subject related to Accounting 1, 2, and 3 that is, subjects like leases, bonds, inventory, depreciation, etc. He told me when you take it the first time you will not get intense questioning about advance subjects like Gov accounting, IFRS, hedges, derivatives, foreign transactions, translations, etc.
Since I am studying Becker, he told me to focus heavily on the concepts of chapters 1 through 7. He told me that once you fail FAR once then it gets harder and then you must be prepared for everything.
What do others that have taken FAR more that once? do you think that FAR gets harder each time you re-take it?
That is one thing that keeps me motivated to want to pass it on my first attempt…. So I don't fall in a vicious cycle.
May 22, 2013 at 12:41 pm #418044
AnonymousInactiveMonty..I apologize but I couldn't disagree more. I just took FAR for the first time and out of the 4 topics he said to focus only 1 of those was tested heavily on my test. Govt and NFP was HUGE!!! Study everything!
May 22, 2013 at 12:43 pm #418045
TonyaMcMemberThat is very “INTERESTING” Monty!. I did NOT know that your test was subject to whether or not you have taken the CPA before. I always thought there was a random amount of tests created and each test taker would be given one RANDOMLY. I learn something new here daily. I have noted your recommendations…Thanks.

montyMemberMustPass1988 At least It is good to see that you have passed all other 3 parts… Perhaps I will move on to the next parts and then come back to FAR… What do you think? would you have done it difference looking back? would you have done it the same way? or would you have first attempt to pass FAR before moving on to the next sections?
May 22, 2013 at 12:57 pm #418047
montyMemberTonyaMc please know that just like everything in life some of it is true some of it is just plain “speculation” So I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction.
I just make the choice of listing everything that people say and then just believing what every makes me more motivated to pass it on my first attempt.. Like believing that it will get harder once I fail it the first time…
