Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

Constant Dollar Value LIFO, i hate it. But, I put it together that the Constant is the beginning Inventory of the base year. At least that's what's helping me with it.

I just finished re-reviewing F2. I have 11 days left and am not sure that's going to be enough time for everything. My plan is to summarize my notes then rework all the MC's marking any that I miss along the way so i can go back to those later. The problem is F1-F5 I originally studied these back in November so it's taking me awhile to complete the review for these sections. The MC scores have improved from November but I'm still worried that the information is not staying fresh in my mind.

Anyway just needed to vent a little.

@Daria84 – Thanks for the nice summary. I eventually got there, it just took a while.

I wish CPAexcel had one place where they showed every Journal Entry, unfortunately they are spread out in the study text and it took some time for me to reach that main point that everything goes through the investment.

I f@#@ing hate Becker. Everytime I've tried to complete SIMs, something happens that kicks me out of the test. Either the interent stops working only on Becker (works on everything else in the house) or I click a back or delete button to try to erase a number and it exits out of the SIM. Today I decided to take the 4 hour Final Exam #1 and over 3 hours in, I only have 3 SIMs left to complete, the internet stops working and I get a debug and of course you can't go back where you left off. At least it did save the results of my MCQs but not the SIMs. I am so pissed.

I was able to go back to the Final Exam and review the SIMS. I just covered up the right answers and completed the one's I didn't complete and compared and did the calculations myself. My scores are as follows. I didn't do good on the MCQ's, but did good on the SIM's.

    Testlet 1: 60%

    Teslet 2: 73%

    Testlet 3: 76%

    Testlet 4 SIMS: 82%

Overall, it came to exactly 75%.

Starting tomorrow, I'm going to review a chapter that I'm weak on each day along with MCQs and try to get through another Final Exam next Sunday. I'm really disappointment in my MCQ scores, hopefully I can improve this substantially by next weekend.

FAR exam is in two days (Wednesday, 22nd) and my review has been seriously derailed.

My Macbook died this weekend, which is annoying enough given that I bought it 3 months ago, but even more so since my PC died a few weeks ago and I lost some of my review notes. On top of that I had no way of doing any practice MCQs or the Becker practice tests, which was my plan for the weekend.

Got my laptop back this morning and I've got today and tomorrow off and I plan on doing a practice exam each day followed by reviewing any sections the exams highlighted as weak areas for me.

I'm trying not to stress too much, I think I'm prepared enough to do well, but I haven't been able to keep up with progress tests and chapters I've already covered and I'm worried that I don't know everything well enough. Its one thing to do well on the MCQs having just looked at the material, but its another story all together when they are randomly thrown at you without any context.

Any advice for my last two days?

Logueco- were in just about the same boat!! My test is tomorrow and it seems like my progress tests are all over the map. I'm going to focus on redoing homework for my weak areas today and getting a good nights sleep tonight as my exam is tomorrow!! Best of luck on Wednesday!!

Hopeful this time around.... Back after a 2 year break!!

@MrsBing, @ ndependentbw….there was a question from u in the previous replies ” did you ever get an answer to your question regarding when else to use lower of cost or market outside of inventory?”

I think the answer is when u decide to end the operations n dispose off the assets after the year end…u report lower value on the b/s

    FAR 72,71,81 🙂
    AUD 64,71, 72, 75 🙂 I'm done !!!
    REG 73, 74, 74, 84 🙂
    BEC 76 🙂

@logueco – This is a little off topic, but deals with something you mentioned. Do you use an online backup system? I would seriously lose it if I lost ANY of my notes.

I backup everything in Dropbox. 2 GB free, and you can expand that by referring people.

I have an R&D related question if anybody can help me out!

So, in Becker (F2-18), it states that research and development costs undertaken on behalf of others under a contractual arrangement should be expensed by the developer as cost of sales.

However, in one of the problems, the answer states that “direct costs of doing contract R&D work for the government to be reimbursed by the governmental unit” should be capitalized.

Anyone understand the distinction here? Thanks for any help!

    GreenMonkey:

I think the distinction lies in the “reimbursed by the governmental unit” segment. Which I guess indicates the company doing the R&D isn't actually “selling” anything.

Is anyone on here using CPAreview for free to supplement with their final review? I've used it for the IFRS questions and Pensions but I'm not sure if there's a benefit to going thru all the questions. At least, any more of a benefit than just going through the Wiley Test Bank questions which is what Im using now.

I would stick with the Wiley questions first. If you are struggling with a topic and need some extra practice look at Cpareviewforfree. Keep in mind there are a few questions with errors.

That's what my hesitation is with using Cpareview for free- I have heard there are errors and I don't want to get into that in my final review. Do you have any review tips for using Wiley? I'm going to start reviewing on Friday and plan to review for a total of at least 40 hours. I've gone thru almost all the MCQ's (I've done ~2300) and everyday for the last week I've been doing 20-30 MCQ's selected randomly from each topic to refresh some of the concepts.

I know I need to back thru and really review bonds, leases, inventory, cash flows, stockholders equity, governemental and NFP but I'm finding that for a lot of the minor topics like segment reporting, % of completion vs. completed contract, etc, I'm forgetting a lot of what I've studied. Should I even waste my time hammering those topics down? I'm trying to figure out a solid study plan so I don't waste any time. I never want to have to study for this test again!
