Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

    Aud- 11/28/12 (72), 02/27/13 (72), 04/06/2013 77!!

I think your plan is good Tina. I liked to switch it up with Becker and Wiley. To be honest the test was very focused on a few concepts for me… which is how most of the exams seem to be its just lucky if its your strong topic, and for me it wasn't my best but I think I did alright. Focus on the MCQ's. I redid a lot of the sims and what not but these sims were literally the easiest I've seen yet. The MCQ's, on the other hand, were not. My first testlet wasn't bad but they were quite difficult towards the end thats for sure.

Thanks Jasper. That's super helpful 🙂

BTW, if you are not working full time (if I remember correctly from your posts) I would definitely shoot for BEC for end of May (chapters below since I have the 2011 book). Ch.1, 2, 4 I would consider relatively straight-forward. I had most trouble with 3 and 5 because I hated variances. I really liked NINJA notes for this part, especially because BEC is a wild-card. I also utilized the text links in the Wiley Test Bank. As for the writing section, I would follow whatever tips are outlined in your books. Don't undestimate BEC because it's kind of random, but if you have the time (and $$ in case you have to retake) I would go for it.

Ch. 1: Corp Governance and Operations Management

    Ch. 2: Economic Concepts

    Ch. 3: Financial Management

    Ch. 4: IT and Communications

    Ch. 5: Stategic Planning

    R - 74;88
    A - 84
    B - 74;89
    F - no study = 67; May 15 = 87 & done

Hi everyone, I'm curious as to what review course or material you are using for FAR. Obviously I've met my match…FAR is not my friend. I have one more chance to pass before Audit expires 9/30. I'm currently using MDS but looking to add something in addition.

Tina- Thanks! I have heard that BEC is not one to mess with… but I think I can tackle it. I am hoping there is a lot of overlap from Reg and Coporate structure. I want to take it this window because I graduate May 25th and start my new job in June so I'd like to get this out of the way before than. I plan just to use Becker 2013 edition to study for BEC but might consider looking into the Wiley Test Bank.

Qlad- To be honest I have never focused on the “heavily tested” sections that are outlined in the front of most books (becker in particular) I just like to get a good understanding of everything .With that said, I would suggest focusing on the topics that you find most difficult because I know one topic in particular that was heavily tested on my exam was one that Becker spent about 1 hour on tops… and most of the questions that were tested were not directly addressed in the material. I didn't put as much time into that because I figured it wouldn't be heavily tested. Do the MCQ's over practice Sims if your prioritizing things to study. I was shocked at the level of difficulty of the Sims (due to not being difficult at all).

For those of you taking FAR on the last week of May and using Becker, where are you at in your studies?

My FAR date is May 29 and I am currently terrified, I have been doing 2 chapters per week and next week is my final week (F9 Non profit and F10 random subjects), then 2 weeks of study before the test.

My problem is that even that I have gone “balls to the wall” with my studying, I am currently at 50% of the MCQ for F8 Gov Accounting ( all others I have done 100% F1 through F7) but I have had no time for simulations or to redo MCQ of previews sections (I will have to do that on my last 2 weeks).

I plan to take the week previous to the test off from work, but still, I AM FREAKING OUT…..

I have put in 1.5 hrs in the morning, over 4 hrs in the evening, over 20 to 28 hours on the weekend and I feel that I am behind on my studying (Full time job, Army reservist and father of two small ones) this has been HELL.

I got a GPA of 3.5 for my BA in accounting (2005) and 4.0 on my Masters in accounting (2013) and at this point I have spent more time studying for FAR, than both of my degrees combined (TRUE STATEMENT)

What is taking me the longest is the notes I take after each question I get wrong the first time (at an average of 50% first time pass average, you can imagine that it has been a LOT of writing).

    SO HELP ME GOD…..

@monty I am going for my first exam so I have no experience to give you advice or two. Only thing I can say is that I admire how you handle this with two little children, and all the background information that you shared. Not many things must be impossible for you @monty… (even the word “impossible” says that “I am possible”).

Best of luck and may god be with you when you take an exam.

    FAR - May 16th --- 83
    AUD - August 2nd --- 81
    BEC - December 2d --- 76
    REG - February 10th---77

Hey guys. Does anyone have any good notes or a good explanation for the different Governmental fund types? For instance, i always get confused when it comes to distinguishing a Capital Project to a Special Revenue. Or what ends up going into the Governmental Fund.

Also, how the different type of transactions are recognized. For instance, a derived transaction (IE Sales Tax) is recognized under the accrual method when the exchange takes place but for modified accrual the exchange is recognized when the revenue is available and measurable. But there is also Imposed, Voluntary and a few other transactions that I cant recall.

    FAR- PASSED (11/13)
    REG- PASSED (2/14)
    BEC- PASSED (5/14)
    AUD- PASSED (8/14)

If it's important to you, you will find a way. If it isn't, you will find an excuse.

Does anyone actually ever feel ready for FAR? I'm so stressed out its ridiculous. I'm 80% of the way through my study material & my test is at the end of the month, I've done almost 1800 MCQ's and have done the MCQ's for each section at least twice (some sections 3-4 times), & I've been going back and reviewing along the way but i still don't feel ready. I know that on the actual test, I'm not going to be drilled on bonds or leases for an entire testlet but I still feel like I need to know everything 100%. I really really hate this section…

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

@MustPass – No, I don't think anyone feels 100% ready for FAR. There's entirely too much information! I came out of the test thinking that I wouldn't have been more prepared even if I had 2 more months to study for it. And I'm not going to lie… it was awful. So incredibly difficult, but I somehow passed! You can do it — just go into that test knowing that you've done everything you can and you will do your best! 🙂
