Is it ok to start a FAR Study Group? I retook Audit yesterday and although I don’t have a gut feeling either way if I passed or not, I am going to start on FAR. I am using Becker self-study and purchased the Ninja Notes for FAR.

I am looking forward to reading a/b everyone’s progression. Good Luck!

@tmturner74 I am using yaeger for far. I really like it because it does what I needed and that's to go over the problems while studying. It makes my studying a little more productive than just doing alot of reading. I like getting to the point so when I see those problems again I don't have anytrouble knowing not guessing what to do. i also have ninja notes, audio, and wiley test bank to supplement.

I'll be joining this train too. 🙂 I'll be taking my first exam, FAR, and have it scheduled for April 29th. That will be 8 weeks to prepare. My strategy is to do Wiley MCQ's like crazy and make sure I understand why a question is right and the other answers are wrong. I didn't take many notes the first time I went through Yeager… I'm thinking this may have been a mistake. I'm going to start taking notes and see if that helps.

@10key i have fineshed all questions too

And i was mistaken with not taking notes

Next step will be read becker book from cover to cover

With taking notes from book and MCQs

Next time for any section i will take notes from MCQs in first study

Yup, those MCQs are best. For audit I didn't get much out of the book until I went through it a second time. It just tied everything together inside my brain and that's when I really started nailing the MCQs. But FAR is like twice as big! Guess I'll just be drinking coffee like it's busy season!

    Up to F10 in Becker…finally!

I'll have about 3 weeks to review. What's the best thing to do for a final review? Is it crazy that I've done well over 2,000 MC questions already? Probably overkill, but FAR will be the first exam I sit for.

My plan for a final review is as follows:

Week 1: Rewrite notes and reread the chapters

Week 2: Redo homework MC questions/SIMs

Week 3: Practice exams and any miscellaneous work

I feel like that will get me where I need to be! How is everyone else doing?

lbi18, You've got 3 weeks to review and you've worked thousands of Multiple Choice questions and are planning to redo everything. I don't know what your knowledge level is, but I'd be willing to bet you are going to be more than prepared. At your stage, it's going to come down to test day: how you perform/manage your time and the roll of the dice, specifically the SIMS. May I ask how long you've set aside for FAR prep in total?

nashville79, I definitely allocated more than enough time – 3 months. I know this is a crazy amount of time, but I've been constantly reviewing old topics so that they stay fresh in my mind. Looking back, I should have started about 2 weeks later than I did.

@Ibri yep, it all depends on the test day. I got 89 and 88 on practice exam for Becker, but the actual exam got an unexpected twist lol.

    AUD - 90 05/2013
    REG - 85 10/2013

    I'M DONE. THANK YOU LORD!

For the two portions I've made it through, the most time consuming piece (at least for me) was translating the bulk of the material into reasonable pieces (no matter which software you are using). For those of you who have folks to study with, take advantage of that. Break up the chapters and let each person be responsible for “converting” and summarizing/explaining the translated material for their assigned portions. The reality is there's only a handful of difficult concepts once you break it down. Find out what you need to 1) LEARN (that will vary for each of us) then pull out what you need to 2) MEMORIZE, then 3) PRACTICE. Unfortunately for me, a non-accounting undergrad in an atypical accounting role, Step #1 takes more time than desired.

Does anyone have any advice for those of us out there that don't plan to put in 200+ hours to take this beast? In other words, what's the best bang for your buck once you've been through the material once?

I think go through the material thoroughly and then supplement with wiley and ninja notes.

Hey Everyone! I'm sitting for FAR on May 10th and in between now & then I'm going to Hawaii for a week and Europe for a week. Europe is for work & its 3 weeks before the exam so I probably will be doing more studying after work than sight seeing :/ Oh well, it's worth it to get this thing over with! I plan on beginning the review material this weekend but I have NO motivation. Hopefully seeing a passing score soon in REG (fingers crossed) will motivate me

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

I'm using Becker as my main study source, but using the Wiley Test Bank as a supplement.

Just went through the financial instruments section on Becker and it wasn't too bad. Once I did the Wiley questions though, it all went downhill. Wiley asks questions that Becker didn't even cover/mention.

Not sure how to comprehend this.

@lbi18 I experienced that for the 2 exams I have taken. I see it as a good thing because it forces me to learn more material. I would make flashcards on things I am likely to forget and feel good that at least I saw that info before test day. You never know the minutia might get you a few points.

How is everybody studying for Becker which evidently has more material than the other sections? I'm moving through Becker pretty slowly (finished F1 & F2 lectures in about 2 weeks)

    BEC 82 Nov 2012 | REG 80 Feb 2013 | FAR 76!!! Apr 2013 | AUD 69 May 2013 | AUD 83!!! Aug 2013

Done!! Thanks Jeff & A71 friends!
