    @aatoural, They definitely added a few. The DRS ones are kind of whack because they are management letters, but they have a few ok cases. The change that I like the most about this version is that we can actually give us a links to see all of the JEs for a chapter, rather than scouring the text. I think they are the same JEs that were baked into the audio-visual slides on the old the version, but they got rid of those.

    @sallycpa I couldn't recommend any one chapter for JEs. They are all fair game on the test, and I have always had at least 3 sims in JE format.

    @Anthony: Impressive averages. Good luck today!

    As someone who just started studying for FAR, I'm curious what preparation you did to produce those average scores. I would feel very confident with those going in. What did you do before you started Ninja MCQ?

    Just took the exam. All I have to say is wow..mcq were OK, nothing that you couldn't handle if you been studying hard. Sims on the other hand was a different story. Had 2 DRS and one enhance sim. First DRS was OK, second was a killer. Had like 2-3 sims on what people would call “hard”/difficult topics. I wish I can say what were they, but you know I can't.

    Got very lucky with the research question. Wasted 20 minutes and didn't find what I was looking then..boom and my eye lit up because I was just to give up and feeling dejected like the first time I took FAR and couldn't find the damn research question. Pretty much sure it's 250% correct.

    My suggestion:
    – Practice DRS a bit because you want to be very comfortable with being able search through the documents. You don't want to be the deer in the headlight and shifting through the docs without any clue where or what to do when you start.
    – Same old thing as last format – hit NFP/Gov't/IFRS hard, know your j/e.
    – Don't bother wasting time on the AICPA blueprint nonsense. Just study hard.
    – Take the 15 minute break, unless you're an ironman.

    My time:
    About 1:05 on MCQ
    Rest on sims
    I probably would have put 10-15 minutes more on MCQ if I were to retake it again.

    I won't lie, but I could definitely say Gleim gave me a chance to put up a good fight on sims compared to my first attempt. Hope I did well enough for the CPA gods to give me a pass.

    @thelatebloomer
    I went through Gleim first then to Ninja. Did nothing except 125 daily MCQ progress test from all topics on the test prep and did a lot of sims also. Last 3-4 days before the test I did nothing except Ninja MCQ with only unseen and non repeats so I really test my knowledge instead trying to inflate some bs number up.

    Hi, What is a “DRS?” and an “enhanced Sim”? I know what a simulation is, I do not know what enhanced means–harder?

    TurboSandwich,

    In my opinion, Roger MCQ in 2017 are up to par. He has DRS exercises, calculations that require various documents, and the MCQ are good too. I have taken FAR before and the MCQ were so long, I didn't understand how I could solve in 1 min and 30 seconds. And, Roger has MCQ that are the same way.

    I bought the Ninja MCQ and noticed a great deal of duplicate questions with Roger and Ninja, so I've decided to just stick with one because I want to cover all the questions the software has to offer, rather than the redundancy in questions that I understand. For me, I feel it's ineffective.

    Ok, I have another question that I got wrong. The only question I have is-how would I know that the cash surrender value of life insurance was an asset? I am a Staff Accountant and never heard of this at all. I had to google what it was. Is this stuff on the real exam-items you never heard of?
    ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************

    When preparing a draft of its 20X0 balance sheet, Mont, Inc. reported net assets totaling $875,000. Included in the asset section of the balance sheet were the following:

    Treasury stock of Mont, Inc. at cost, which approximates market
    value on December 31 $24,000
    Idle machinery $11,200
    Cash surrender value of life insurance on corporate executives $13,700
    Allowance for decline in market value of securities available for sale $8,400

    At what amount should Mont's net assets be reported in the December 31, 20X0, balance sheet?

    $850,000

    $842,600

    $834,500

    $851,000

    @LCros, That's good to know. So far, I've felt that the NINJA MCQs were a bit more challenging than the Roger IPQs. I'll be doing a practice exam this Sunday and next Sunday, so I'll probably alternate the practice exam for Roger and Ninja. It may be overkill but hitting these concepts hard sure wouldn't hurt IMO.

    @averiagaskin

    DRS = Document research simulation
    Enhance sim = a regular sim with supporting documents such as invoice, attorney letter ect ect..
    It pretty much a mixture of a document research simulation with a regular simulation

    @anthony, Without disclosing too much, was your DRS a business memo like every DRS in Gleim? Just want to make sure those are sufficient practice for the actual exam.
