    I am taking FAR this Friday and was curious about the time alloted for the new TBS. For those who have taken the new FAR exam in 2011, how much time did you save for the TBS and was it enough? My initial plan is to spend 50 min per MCQ testlet, leaving me with a 5 min break and 85 minutes to finish the TBS. I just wanted to double check to see if this is too much time or not enough. I would rather be safe than sorry because I did run out of time on my 1st attempt and received a 73, so I don’t want that to happen again!

    BEC - 71, 74, 77 (Feb - 2011)
    FAR - 73, 78 (Feb - 2011)
    REG - 83 (Nov 2010)
    AUD - 71, 84 (May 2011) - Done!! CPA licensed in TX (July 2011)

    I wouldn't even take a break. I am in the same boat as you and take the exam Friday. I would suggest spending more time on MC than on the TBS. Maybe 6:4 ration, just like the score weight. So 2Hrs & 24 Minutes on MC / 1 Hr & 36 Minutes on TBS. That's 48 Min per MC Testlet. 13 Min per TBS Tab. But hey, who's counting?

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

    I sat for FAR in Jan and I left 1.5 hours for the TBS and felt that was enough time. A coworker of mine said he left 1.5 hours but wished he had 15 – 30 more minutes for the TBS. At a minimum leave 1.5 hours.

    For those who have taken the new format, can you move freely between ALL simulation tabs. Meaning can you skip tabs and then go back and forth. Thanks

    Yes, there is only one TBS with multiple tabs in it. All 7 tabs are available (including the research tabs – 2 of them) and you can move freely between them and do them in any order.

    Hey car16015,

    I noticed that you previously took the exam under the old format, as did I, do you think you needed more or less time on the simulations under the new format? How was your experience having already taken it and having a base for the material already.

    Thanks

    @Drod57:

    I think I probably needed a little less time with the simulations under the new format. Mostly because there are no written simulations anymore. As far as having a base for the material, I obviously think it helped. The first time I took FAR I used Becker. I switched to Yaeger for my second test, but flew through the material as I didn't have much time to study. I really don't feel any better about my result the second time around. I will probably have the same result but there's always a glimmer of hope.

    What is your opinion?
