FAR Sims….

I sit for FAR in 2 and a half weeks and have just starting doing a review and working MCQ’s. I use cpaexcel and wtb. For some reason, I always do horribly on sims that require calculation of any kind but am already averaging in the high 70’s and low80’s on MCQ’s. I’m really concerned about the sims because I can rarely pull an average score above 60 for the sims. I have also heard that practicing sims is often not worth the time and you are better suited to learning concepts thoroughly and practicing MCQ’s. How much time should I actually spend doing sims? Are the practice sims anything like the sims on test day?

I'd love to know the answer here as well..

I sit for FAR this upcoming Saturday and I'm not sure what I should do about SIMS. For AUD I didn't study for them at all, but got hit like a brick wall when I had them on exam day….somehow I still managed to pass.

BEC I reviewed the study guide for the written portion, but I don't think there was much prep required.

FAR – I'm honestly quite concerned because everyone says the SIMS are just crazy. So I don't know if it's worth spending the time studying the Becker SIMS or just pounding MC questions.

I used Becker for FAR and to be honest, I probably only looked at 1 sim while I was studying. It definitely doesn't hurt to practice sims but you never know which ones you're going to get on exam day. I actually focused more on the material itself than on doing MCQ's and sims because I felt that if I knew the material well enough, then I would be able to answer most of the questions that were thrown my way. I was also a bit crunched for time. Now, I'm not saying you have to follow the same method I used but it was just what worked for me and how I'm use to studying. According to my score report, I ended up scoring stronger on sims. In terms of time, on exam day, I made sure to leave at least 1 hr 45 mins – 2 hours.

@acg5000, I definitely believe Becker prepared me well for FAR and I think you're in good hands. I just took audit and didn't study any sims and got hit like a brick wall as well. I actually found my audit sims to be much more difficult than my FAR sims. Hoping I'll share the same fate as you and end up with a pass!

    Good luck to you both!

Definitely do the sims that come with becker. I also like to throw a little extra seasoning on my chicken by thinking of how each multiple choice question can be translated into a simulation. My exam is this Tuesday so we shall see how effective it will be.

    FAR. Feb 2014 76
REG. Jan 2015 79 half way there!!
BEC. Feb 2015 79 thank you God!!
AUD. Apr 20, 2015 and will be done. Hold that thought 65, 7/14/15 85!

Besides the research, I would say about less than 50% on the exam is similar to the ones in CpaExcel. The ones on the actual exam is like 3 to 4 times the length of the ones you see in the practice sims. I WISHED the ones on the exam were the same length on the practice; but nope, most of them isn't even close. Be prepared for ones that are so left field, you just have to try and not leave it blank. However, I did recall one easy one, but it just had a longer thought process because of the story that is presented.

    FAR - 62 (10/2/13), 50 (5/30/14)
    AUD - 73 (10/30/13), 66 (5/6/14)
    REG - 69 (4/8/14)
    BEC - 66 (2/27/13), 73 (4/21/14)
