FAR – sick, think I can get through?

So I began my FAR journey about a week ago. I got through F1, and I came down with a brutal cold (hopefully not the flu…but fever comes and goes) starting on Thursday and today is my worst day. Through this, I’ve only gotten through the first 4 or 5 pages of F2. I have my exam scheduled for Nov 23rd…working full time and taking care of a 7 year old makes it tough, but I’m hoping to study about 15 hours during the week and 8 hours on the weekend. Do you think that’s doable or should I push to the 1st week of Jan? I’m getting nervous since I haven’t made a dent in FAR yet….

oilgaslb- F2 was my least favorite section of all of the Becker books. Studying for FAR is a marathon and you can definitely do it. I would say leave your exam scheduled in November. Think of how awesome it would be to be done with FAR before the holidays. If things are truly horrible the week of the exam, then reschedule it.

Did you do all the MCQ's with F-1? I am over halfway through the videos of F-1 right now. Not sure if I am going to do the MCQ's right after or wait until I get through all the videos and come back and do them.

I think if you keep moving forward and getting rid of that cold, Nov 23rd is definitely doable. I am taking the exam on the 14th and I am a little behind you. So if I can do it on the 14th, I think you can definitely do it on the 23rd. Just keep pushing forward. Don't let the material discourage you, I definitely have had some struggles with it, I just took a deep breath and dove into it.

If you ever hit a snag come onto here and vent, I feel it helps sometimes 🙂

Thanks guys – @kkimi, I completed all multiple choice questions. I know people that save the questions for after going through all lectures, but that's definitely not something that would work for me. I don't like moving forward until I'm at least somewhat comfortable with the material in a section. Hopefully we find what works, and no one gets sick from here on out!!

Hopefully you will be back on your game in soon. Like the others have said, you may still be able to be ready in time, and you can always reschedule later if you don't feel ready.

I got pretty sick before my previous exam and still took it anyway. I was too sick to even be nervous. I ended up going slower through the exam and realized in my previous exams I had been rushing and not *really* reading the questions. I passed it, but it's not the best way to learn to slow down, but I'll use it in future exams.

I guess my point is take some while you are sick to re-evaluate your strategy, study plan, etc. Hopefully you'll be ready to go again in a few days when you are better. If you need an extra week to make up, then move your exam to the end of Nov. Keep in mind that if you don't take it in Nov, then you lose that window.

You're still about 2 months till your exam. I know that every lost minute is precious and hurts, but you've got time to “make up” for this bump in the road! One thing I have definitely seen through this exam series is that life does EVERYTHING it can to get in the way.

My exam is scheduled for Oct 5 and I think I have the same thing you do – cold (icky congestion – I hate being stuffy) and fever coming and going. Ugh. Do NOT have time for this. But I'm still trying to pull it off…

…and Baxter is actually the perfect answer to your question. She's been sick since she started the CPA exams, and has passed 3 of them! She has some more info about what's wrong with her here: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/my-health-or-cpa-advice but if she can pass 3 exams while in a state that the doctors are just impressed she can stand up, then I'm sure we can pass them with a cold/fever/flu thing!!

Thanks Lilla. Sick is sick and it sucks to study regardless of what type of sick it is. (Say that five times fast!) =)

OilGasLb: You got this. Two months til FAR and then you can step up and bitch slap that monster! Get better and then get busy!
