FAR Shell Shock

The last time I took FAR I knew I had failed but didn’t think I failed as bad as I did.

I honestly evaluated my study time and my study habits and I thought I had really put in enough effort to get at least a 70+. I did very poorly on everything when I got my score analysis back.

FAR is very intimidating to me because the amount of material, and even with the study cards I feel like sometimes the information flies into one ear and out the other.

I’ve failed before so I know it takes a lot of emotional effort to get back on that saddle after failing, but I’ve got FAR shell shock. I’m diving back in, but I’m still a little intimidated.

Have you ever just completely bombed a section and how did you recover/motivate yourself to study for that section again?

    REG- 84 - PASS!
    BEC- 65, 72, 78! PASS!
    AUD- 80 - PASS!
    FAR- 64- What??, 82 - PASS!

AND I'M DONE!! Just keep your eyes on the prize and remember that you can do it!

FAR is your last exam, so that should be enough motivation. 64 is not that bad. Try to psyche yourself up for the retake. If there is one exam where the material is applicable to the real world its FAR, so why not try to master it? Spend 2 months and try to master journal entries, financial statements, and all that you can.

If you have the funds maybe some new materials to make your retake study routine new. Maybe Roger Phillips. Make some ambitious/interesting goals like “I will score 90% on all sections in my test bank in next month etc”. Simulations might help freshen up your routine as well. Just try to master it by the next window. Oh yah and get started tomorrow. Good Luck!

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Get pissed and make FAR your enemy. Back to back 74's, and that's how I treated it. You can do this.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

    Thanks for the feedback, guys.

@Gatorbates – I remember when we both got our FAR failing results back in the the last window and how much it sucked! It's so encouraging to see that you plowed through it and passed FAR!!

@Study Monk – I wish knowing it was my last part was enough motivation! I'm dead tired. Unfortunately I don't have 2 months, just 3 weeks until my Reg credit expires. I'm familiar enough with the material that passing in 3 weeks isn't unreasonable, but trying to learn it all? Forget about it!

To me it's always important to juggle that fire to pass with the reality that I'm working 60+ hour weeks and can only fit so much into my schedule without having a heart attack. I have 2014 Becker materials, and so far they've been very good to me, so we'll see how it goes. (Oh, and I started studying 2 weeks ago!)

I definitely have the drive to get this thing finished, so I'm giving it my best, but I wanted to get some of that motivation that repeat test-takers have given themselves.

Nothing takes the wind out of your sails quite like putting your everything into an exam only to receive a bombing score.

    Thanks for the input!

@Lizzers, this is my last exam as well and am also having motivation issues. However, you just HAVE to remember that if you work hard these last three weeks, you will be done forever… you never have to think about it again, ever! How amazing will that be? 3 weeks is nothing! If I fail this one, then I have to spend another month or two studying, another 3 months of waiting for score release, another $250, more terrible attitude & high anxiety.

3 weeks of studying >>>>>> 3 months of studying, $250, hatred, bad attitude, no free time, anxiety, stress.

    AUD: 84
    REG: 84
    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83

My last exam as well. FAR is so intimidating. New job at work and children at home doesn't make this terrible experience any better. Studying 3 chapters a week for the next 3 weeks. I am beyond exhausted. I think I need some adderall to make it through to the end of Feb. 🙁

    BEC- 75
    AUD - 83
    REG - 76 (Expired 2/28/14)
    FAR - 53 66
