FAR: Review or move forward? - Page 2

I am planning to take FAR early July. So far I have only covered the first 3 chapters from Becker. My dilemma is I am forgetting the material I learn…And I wanted to get other pp.’s take on the most effective method for studying FAR. I realize everyone has their own way of studying but FAR being the beast that it is, maybe there is one common theme that helps ppl pass it.

I am not sure if I should keep moving forward or take my time to review the previous chapters. My plan is to finish all chapters one time by June 6th so I can spend the rest of the time reviewing the material. But I am afraid I might have to relearn most of the early chapters by then. So I was thinking that after finishing every 3 chapters I shld spend a couple of days to review all 3 and then move forward..

    Any thoughts?

^^^^^Yeah, what she said. :)^^^^^ Too many notes is overwhelming and there are just too many details in FAR to take a note on everything that seems important.

Definitely keep reviewing prior material as you go forward. Even if it's just a 25 question progress test or 10 questions in one specific topic. It will REALLY help you to be able to spend the last two weeks just reviewing, instead of relearning material.

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll keep doing the progress tests and MCQ for the previous chapters before moving ahead, and not a “full review”. LIke you said @cpamommy, if I start reviewing now after only doing 3 chapters, I'll just have to review those three chapters again later.

Btw, how many weeks did everyone leave for review? I'm guessing at the minimum I should leave 2 weeks, correct?

Definitely leave 2 weeks for review. 3 if you can swing it.

thanks for your responses.. I am going to read the outlines and go over flash cards for all 3 chapters and do a progress test for bat 30 MCQs before I move on to F4. I am not sure how its possible to retain all this info..I am only upto F3 and already feel overwhelmed.

Oh I don't believe it's possible to retain ALL of the information, but it is possible to get a general understanding of most of the topics. Memorizing JEs and using T-accounts really helped me visualize how a lot of the concepts relate to the financials. Even when problems didn't ask for it, I would still write out the JEs because it helped me understand how things flowed. It's overwhelming, but as you go along things start to come together and the more MCQ you do, the better it gets.

I love it when I get to ‘review time.' I usually take about 3 months per section and the first two are going through the material the first time. I personally love my yaeger videos for first learning the material. But yeah, two months to learn, answer some mcq, take plenty of notes, create note cards etc. Then the last month is pure review. I do cram videos (for certain sections, not if I feel comfortable with a topic), TONS of mcq, sims. The last week I take time to memorize just a few key items to make sure I know them in-and-out (such as AMT calculation for REG). Good luck!
