FAR Retake in 2 weeks. Study Tips?

I made a 73 on FAR on my first try. So close! I scored weaker in the sims. In my re-review, I’ve done all MCQs from all 10 chapters in Becker, with some flash cards and progress tests thrown in.

At this point, I’m looking to work all the SIMS at least once (maybe some of them twice) and review Ninja Notes.

What are your suggestions beyond that to give me the confidence to passing this time around?

    Thanks!

    Charlie

Ninja MCQ for 2 weeks non stop. Read why you missed it.

Your signature is kind of terrifying to me, as I plan to take two parts while in Big 4. :/

It is different for every office, but I have had little time to study. I took two parts last summer, passed on my first try, and then started Big 4 in August (Did Audit while on a 6/30 year end client as soon as I started). I should have did the other two parts while in graduate school, but I didn't listen. Once October rolled around, I got pretty busy and stayed on year end clients until Mid May, then went to training, and now I am on two different 6/30 year ends.

I took several weeks of PTO in July to Finish Reg and I am using 10 weeks for FAR because I will be working a ton. It isn't impossible, and is probably less difficult than if you have kids. They tend to not make time for you, you have to do it on your own. I would wake up 2 hours before work and get some done, either at home or at your client/office (it'll impress your senior, because they think you're there working on audit/tax stuff), a hour at lunch, and a hour late at night. 9/10 times, I don't get studying in after work.

    @cmason.runner86,

I failed FAR with a 74 using Becker. If I did not pass FAR on the next try then I would lose credit for REG. Here's the solution. Get some fresh material, buy the Wiley test bank online, roll thru all the MCQs (filter on unanswered questions only) and sims. Hopefully your trending in the 70s after you get done all the MCQs. The week before the exam, filter on the questions you got wrong. There might be a couple hundred you got wrong but chances are those questions were the tricky more difficult material. Can you push your exam to the last day in August? Two weeks might not be enough…. By the way, I got an 89 on the retake. Also, I passed two of these exams while working at a big 4… It can be done.

The last two weeks leading up to the exam where the pass or fail weeks for me.

The process was MCQs, MCQs, Diffifult MCQs over trouble areas… and repeat. The night/day before the test I would take it easy on the MCQs and just create your cheat sheet to study in the Car or while your waiting to sign in for the exam.

If you take that approach, and you've gotten through all your study material, I promise you'll pass. Good luck!

    REG - 88

    BEC - 88

100% with @okcpa. Try to identify weak areas and drill harder MCQs while doing JEs. The day before/day of the test should be a lighter, overall review.

The sims, more likely than not, will be much different in the actual exam, but I'd still recommend doing them as part of a review. They're good practice with journal entries at the very least.

How long are you taking in total to study for the re-take? I did 8 weeks and got a 70 and now for the retake I am only doing 5 weeks (I am still in school). I am really nervous and don't know how to go about studying again

@AAN About seven weeks overall for the retake is what I'm doing (two weeks left).
