FAR restudying with 2011 materials – should I update?

So, I failed with a 68 on FAR. I plan to restudy and retake sometime in October. I used 2011 Yaeger materials. Should I update to 2012? I am hesitant to update because it is not my intention to watch the videos again. Yaeger also has an update available for $30 and says it gives updated material from 2011 to 2012. Has anyone used the updates before?

My study plan is to rewrite all of my notes on all topics while looking over the Wiley text and doing Yaeger’s suggested MCP’s & SIMs. Then I plan to review all topics again rewriting 2012 Ninja notes, rereading my notes (again) and doing MCP’s from the 2012 Wiley test bank.

Obviously, I came up short. I can’t honestly attribute a 68 entirely to outdated materials.

What do you think? Get the update? Get the entire 2012 course? Also, any other FAR restudying advice is greatly appreciated.

Have you gone through the entire 2011 course? I would get a cram course. If you feel like you have already gotten what you can out of Yaeger I would switch courses. I am using Roger for my main course and highly recommend his course.

I have Yaeger 2011 and I am restudying FAR as well. I bought the update but didn't feel like I got anything out of it. They update the sections that needed to be updated but I was nervous that I was going to not get the right information. So I ended up throwing out the 2011 book. I have the Wiley test bank, NINJA notes and Audio. I decided to go the CRAM route instead of rewatching all the lectures. I bought the Yaeger 2012 cram. I don't really care for it. They basically just read from the book. ๐Ÿ™ Well I could do that! So it is like watching the same lectures without them working any of the problems. Cindy does give some tips which are awesome!!! If I had to choose again I would go with Roger for the CRAM since he uses the Wiley book and get a different perspective if you are currently using Yaeger.

Also I have the Wiley 2012 book. And the Yaeger CRAM is 24 hours so they cut it down to that amount of time by not working any problems and mostly just reading from the book. Not exactly helpful for me.

Thank you @Mom2two this information is super useful, I appreciate your post.

I don't seem to have a problem understanding concepts and calculations, I have a greater problem REMEMBERING them. Repetition is the only answer I can come up with.

I will probably get the Roger CRAM, and continue to review with my notes, the Ninja notes and Wiley Testbank.

Hi guys. I just found out that I also failed the FAR section. I took FAR 8/28/12

I'm already one week into studying for the next section, which is AUD. (I'm using BECKER)

I'm wondering if I should stop studying for AUD (since I'm not that far into the material) and start re-studying for FAR, or if I should just continue to study for AUD and retake FAR later.

I start working full time in mid october and really wanted to get FAR out of the way before I start.

If restudying for FAR is recommended, how much time of restudying do you recommend, and how should I spend my time restudying the material. i.e re-listening to all lectures or just reviewing material/ redoing all homework or just doing lots of progress test. etc

    Any advice/tips would be helpful.

If I had to choose, I would restudy the section I just failed and not move on until I passed. I jumped around my first time through and that was a mistake (at least for me). ๐Ÿ™‚ I would keep at a section until I passed unless you were trying to take two in one window and don't want to wait for results. Since FAR is fresh, I would restudy that, then maybe AUD at the end of November. Also I would not rewatch the lectures except for the areas you know you are weak on. Some people will say rewatch them…it is your call on how you learn. For me it was repetition of multiple choice questions. For my REG retake I rewatched just the subjects I was weak on, made flashcards, then MC over and over. Did the same for BEC. I felt like I spaced out a lot faster and it was just a waste of time rewatching the entire course again. Good luck! FAR is such a big section!!!

@mom2two, thank you for the helpful information!

according to becker it is recommended to study FAR for about 6-7 weeks. what do you think would be the recommended time to restudy the material. i'm giving myself 4-5 weeks and just want to see what others think is a good time frame.

    thank you again.

I am giving myself about 5 weeks also. So we shall see early November if that was enough time! ๐Ÿ™‚
