FAR Re-take Advice

    Hello all,

Long story short, I have taken FAR 3 times (scores–> 50, 70, 66). I am preparing to sit for AUD on May 30th. I was thinking of picking back up with FAR and sitting on July 11th (Note: my lovely wife and toddler will be out of the house most of June and July, thus uninterrupted study time). Is 6 weeks do-able? How should I begin? I last took FAR at the beginning of April. I was thinking take a comprehensive exam, then work on weak points from there? I have Becker and WTB.

    Any advice would be great.

Since you have taken the test more than once, I think 6 weeks is doable if you are going to really study. I would go over the method used, review the weak areas, but I would really get serious about really knowing the materials through and through. In other posts, some said they just got mad. More than 6 to 8 weeks is room for procrastination. I might be wrong, but the more time I have to study, the more time I waste instead of study. The main thing….get a plan and stick with it. You can do it and good luck.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Thanks for the reply! I think 6 weeks is a short enough time to not get distracted by everything else going on. Thanks again!

I'm going to echo tncincy here – I had 6 months to study for my first go at FAR, waited until the last two weeks to kick it into gear – and still wasted a day or 3 or 4 in there. Make a plan and stick to it – invest in a few extra materials if you have to. I'm cramming for my second shot at it right now (added NINJA Notes & MCQs), and I just keep telling myself I want to be done with these things by the end of August (I still have BEC & REG to go after this) so I can hopefully be licensed by the end of the year and, more importantly, try to salvage whatever summer there happens to be left after I'm done. 🙂

@taxgeek83 Definitely! I have baby #2 coming in October so I am ready to be done. My first time around I also studied too long, did a chapter a week and didn't feel pressured enough. I think 6 weeks will be perfect.

    Good luck to you!

Thanks @Hopeful! Sometimes it's nice to be reminded not everyone passes on the first try 🙂 Everyone in my office has passed on the first try, of course, none of them have familieis or kids and none of them are auditors.

@gabequinn – Many kudos to you folks who can take on this kind of project while raising a family! It's just me – no kids, etc. – and I find it hard enough to buckle down and study. Hiking and snowboarding are much more fun ways to spend my time…. 🙂

P.S. Early congrats on the new baby!

@taxgeek thanks! I'm not saying people that do it without kids have an easier time, it's just different distractions :)- and I agree I would rather by hiking and running 🙂
