MamabearMemberAhhh. For FAR–my biggest tip for FAR is know government, NFP, and IFRS. I don't know how your prep material is but everything I used only skimmed the surface on the differences in IFRS. Know your JEs and practice SIMS. Even if the test bank you have isn't a good representation of the actual SIMS (Wiley wasn't), it is still a good idea to practice them. Don't go into the exam thinking that you can skip an area because it probably isn't heavily tested. I glossed over EPS and diluted EPS because I just didn't understand it and I didn't really take the time to understand it. I regretted that the minute I sat down to the computer. I suggest you write as much memorization stuff on your white board as you can before you log in and start your time. That way you can refer to the white board instead of pulling stuff from your memory during the test. Leave at least 2 hours for SIMS. I don't suggest flagging questions and going back because you will run out of time that you need for SIMS. Do the SIMS you know first (read them carefully!) and then go back to the less known SIMS. That way you don't lose easy points in case you run out of time. I don't know if this will help you and I wish I could help more. I was surprised by my FAR pass. I definitely did not come out of the exam thinking I passed.

TncincyParticipanthey how long did you study….( I am using wiley test bank, wiley book and ninja notes, and audio) I have cpaexcel, but it is so tedious, I just couldn't do it……I am keeping it for aud and bec.
I am currently doing as many mcq's as I can stand. not worrying too much about getting them correct this round but trying to make sure I cover each topic. Then get a little more intense……I guess.

TncincyParticipantno…failed the first time miserably…..weak in too many areas. started from the top after tax season, and as always life get in the way. ( my daughter graduated from high school, my other three children are home from college, my niece passed away, my good friend and cpa mentor passed away). So here I am again. I feel if I pass far I can pass the rest with no problem. Just don't want to waste money letting the nts expire so I am determined to pass. I was scheduled for 5/30….prometric problems they were nice enough to email me a few days in advance. I wasn't ready, but I was deceived into relaxing thinking I have more time. Feeling the pressure now though, but I am determined to pass. I guess I'll keep studying.

MamabearMemberI'm sorry to hear about your losses. I can't imagine how that has affected you, but I know you will make everyone proud when you slay this beast. I skipped the book and just focused on learning from the MCQ explanations and text link feature. I would also suggest going back through the Q2 study group forum and looking at all the questions posted there and the explanations from the other posters. It really helped me to see questions from other review materials just to get a different feel for some of the concepts. I know you can do it. Just focus on one topic at a time. Go through your Ninja Notes and answer all the MCQ for that topic, adding your own notes. I don't suggest jumping around on the material too much because I think it helps to go through so many questions on one topic to solidify your understanding of that topic before moving on. When you get to your review stage, read all your notes and take short quizzes going topic by topic. You've got this!

MamabearMemberWell between last night and today I've gone through 285 MCQ for REG. I'm scoring horribly, but this is my first pass through and outside of Ninja Notes and CPAExcel Outline Notes the question bank is my main source of learning the material (no books or lectures). So getting 51% for Individual Tax, 57% for Property Transaction Tax, 70% on Corporate tax, and 58% on the tax process as a first pass through isn't completely horrible, right?
I guess I'm just looking for a little reassurance that I'm going about this the right way. 34 days until test.

stolewayParticipantOh Mamabear, so sorry. Studying REG for the second time will really help you understand the concepts. There were some aha moments for me during my second review for REG. I failed REG miserably on my first attempt (63) but really came back strong with 84. Don't stress to much about it, you will get there. It hurts, but you will get there.

MamabearMemberThanks everybody. I think I'm going to retake at the end of November. I'll start studying again after my cruise in September. I'm going to enjoy some time off with the family and get our new school routine down and our vacation over with before I jump back into it. I guess I'll buy a book this time. Maybe Ninja will be out before October 1st. If not, I'll have to go with Wiley.
