MamabearMemberArrrggg. No one is studying REG today apparently. Maybe one of you guys can tell me this–I see the safe harbor rules written two different ways, one is to have 100% of the current period's liability paid for estimated taxes and the other says 90%. Which is it? I know the prior year is 100% for under $150K and 110% for over $150K, but I can't find a good explanation of the the current year. Help please! 2 weeks before the testing period starts and the REG thread is dead. We were in full force quiz mode for FAR. π

How many letters do you needParticipantahhh mamabear…unfortunately I can't be much help you are way ahead of me…but that Q2 FAR was a great group filled with highly motivated people; I don't think groups like that come together very often. The REG group is probably motivated too but I don't get the same vibe over there. I still have 11 weeks before my exam so I'm not overly concerned just yet but I look at my REG book like it's written in martian. This one is going to take some serious work. Because of my lack of tax knowledge it's like cooking soup from scratch vs. out of the can like FAR & BEC was. FAR was a HUGE batch so it took a lot of work but there wasn't too much I had to cook from scratch. Ok…maybe I am concerned..hah

MamabearMemberI am concerned for sure. 5 weeks until my test and I haven't even gotten through all the tax stuff yet. Why are there so many damn rules and exceptions to rules?? π Oh well–trudging along. You've got time. Just take it one section as a time and I'm hoping it will all come together. I have to get through tax this weekend and business law over the next two weeks so I can jump into review. This is the fastest I've ever studied for a test. I hope that doesn't bite me in the ass. the REG group is definitely not going to be my source of support, clearly.

TncincyParticipantI hope this helps toward the safe harbor rules.
if your income exceeds $150,000 per year, then the rule is slightly different, and you should ensure you pay 110% of last yearβs taxes to avoid penalties. This applies to paying estimated taxes to avoid penalties
If your income is equal to, or less than, last yearβs income, none of this applies to you. But, if you can take advantage of the safe harbor rule when you pay your quarterly estimated taxes,
I couldn't find the 90% rule.
I am taking reg in august, still working on far. can use some tips if you have any.
It begins with a 75

MamabearMemberThanks tnincy! I'm trying to get through Tax right now. I don't have any many tips yet because I'm still trying to figure it all out. I've been told not to worry too much about the thresholds and to make sure I know filing statutes and exemptions, 1040 Form, 1120 Form, M1 Schedule, 170, 1245, and 1250. It's still a lot of mumbo jumbo to me but I'm hoping it comes together. Good luck on FAR. I know you can do it!
