Finishing F7 tonight, which leaves me with two more chapters to go! I’ll be finishing that by end of this week or beginning of early next week. This leaves me with 15 days of final review.

I wanted to keep up with old materials by doing progress tests daily, but that didn’t happen. As I look back in the book, almost all concepts seem famililar, but obviously require me to tie loose ends.

For the two week review, I’m hoping to read each chapter and do its MCQs/SIMs again (A chapter a day). This will leave me with about 6days…I have a Wiley testbank, and I’m hoping to do those MCQs for 3-4days. For the remaining two days, go over any weak area/attempt Becker final exams/AICPA release questions, etc…

What do you all think? I really want to pass this exam. I’m super nervous and appreciate any help/tip anyone can offer:!)

🙁 FAR does that to people….you aren't alone.

    What chapter are you on?

I am on Chapter 9 and I have a week from Monday. I have been doing MCQs to reinforce concepts, but this weekend will be when I REALLY hit MC hard. I rewrote all of my notes and I cannot explain how helpful that has been. Then I made flashcards (for the 1st time EVER) and I've been going over those. Someone told me they are a wonderful tool for FAR so I am going to try it.

All I know is that anxiety does no good on this test. When I left the exam in January, I KNEW I failed. And I guarantee I didn't earn 15 points because of anxiety alone. I couldn't sleep or eat for days before the exam and got myself so worked up. When in reality, the level of difficulty was similar to the other 4. I thought Audit was way tougher!

Someone on this blog said that next time they study for FAR they are going to know IFRS and Gov't & NonProfit like it was their job. I didn't listen to that advice and I didn't spend sufficient time in those areas. I felt like they were literally every other question on the exam. I know every exam is different though.

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

@OP – Do progress tests/quizzes as much as possible. If you don't have time for the full progress test, do 10 question quizzes from previous chapters frequently. There's a difference between knowing a concept and recognizing it (and memorizing it, for that matter). Practicing regularly will help solidify the concepts you learned early on. With FAR that gets to be a huge challenge based on the volume of material.

Mrs 300 has the right idea — Flashcards and rewriting notes is super helpful too.

I'm in my final 10 days of review, counting today. What I've been doing the past week and a half is going through every Becker MCQ (finishing 7 today). I've been writing lots of notes/formulas/JEs and also taking note of what sections I KNOW I need to review more heavily. This weekend, I plan on doing both practice exams just so that I can make sure I'm on a good timing schedule, and then next week I plan on doing MCQs like crazy and also reviewing the SIMS just so I can get used to applying the concepts to SIMS. I know that a lot of people say don't even worry about practicing SIMS, but for me, it helped me tremendously for AUD. I think it's helpful to see what kind of ways they could possibly ask for information in the SIMS, even though I most likely won't see similar SIMS on the actual exam. I think that it will also be helpful to know how to search for information in the research tab. Good luck!

15 days of final review seems like its not enough time, at least in this gentlemans opinion. there is a tremendous amount of crap to remember in FAR. your plan of spending one day reviewing each chapter is ok in theory but in practice it is unreasonable. there are going to be multiple subjects where you just cant remember whats going on. its going to take time to refresh all that stuff.

I dont even know what chapter Im on or what Im even doing anymore

I'm just watching videos and doing lectures all day every day. I've lost all sense of time and reality

@goodluck2everyone…I think everyone studying FAR went thru similar experience. There are not overly difficulty, just LOTS to study…and you just don't know how much you have learned after hours of studying…it's like holding four watermelons with two hands, once you hold on one or two, you might drop another……my tip to FAR is don't give up studying and DON'T GIVE UP while taking the exam. The feeling you had while taking the exam was not very encouraging, but don't let go just because you have some questions wrong. It's true that many got out from the test center thinking they were going to fail but end up passing!

@goodluck2everyone: SAME here. Hang in there, we shall pass through this:!)

Starting F8 and hoping to finish it in couple days. I'm going to stick with my plan for doing a chapter a day for final review stage…I think it's possible if I work hard at it and stay focused, especially since I'm not working.

Good Luck to everyone and I really really hope we all pass.

@CPA-Convertible, good analogy about the watermelons! With FAR I feel one second that I have a handle on it, then I go over the areas in my head and start to freak because I don’t remember certain areas. It’s frustrating.

I’m in my final review as well. This week I’ve been reorganizing my notes and taking multiple 30 question quizzes to get an overall feel for concepts. I’ve also been making a cheat sheet of notes for all IFRS questions that I come across and any JEs I don’t quite remember.
