    So I know there have been a lot of posts recently about Becker’s practice exams. I am disappointed with my MCQ scores which average in the mid to high 60s. This definitely faltered my confidence. My question for all you CPA alumnus is what is the best thing to do with my time in these next few days before the exam? For me, it’s not the bond/lease type of questions I’m getting wrong but rather more ancilliary type of information. I just really need a boost up to keep powering through this because I feel like I might be right on the pass/fail line.

    FAR 4/9/12- PASSED
    BEC 7/13/12- PASSED
    AUD 8/16/12- Ughhh 71, Rematch: 90!!!
    REG-12/6/12 PASSED

    You have a few more days so I would do this:

    1.) Spend the next two days on only your weak areas. Rewatch a lecture or two, read over the text, and do MCQ and SIMS. Just on your weak areas.

    2.) Spend days 3 and 4 working multiple choice on all chapters. If you don't know the answer to a question (with certainty) then before you select an answer, go to the book and find the answer. Open book MCQ is great for understanding tricky concepts.

    3.) the day before your exam, review the Ninja notes, your notes, flash cards, etc. (whatever you have) that will give you a high level review of all of the material. That way it is fresh in your mind and you will see Everything at least once the day before the exam.

    4.) if you have an afternoon exam, repeat #3 in the morning.

    @mgoloubenko

    Awww don't worry, we can do it!!! Did you do the progress tests yet? I've been doing it with 30MC's and i've been getting high 60's low 70's. On the other hand, I actually knows why I got those questions wrong. Also, I actually know everything by heart when it comes to all the simulations. I'm going to try the final exam maybe thursday! As of now, I review my FC's and do the Progress tests that contains 30MC's. (the 2012 is a little bit different compare to the 2011 format for Becker)

    @bessieghee, I did pretty well on the progress tests from the homework but found the final exams to be harder and not as clear as the homework questions. What was your strategy for tackling the SIMs preparation, I may have to employ some of these tactics in the coming days!

    @mgoloubenko

    I did everything for the sims, and wrote down why I got it wrong. Then doing them the second time around made sense.

    A little tip though, if you don't know how to solve the sims just look at the solution and just look at the number itself, and try to figure out on your own how you got the number.

    Yeah I just did a 30 question MCQ practice test and I got an 80, so I think the way the questions are asked in the final exam is what's confusing me but I also think the CPA words questions more closely to that. And thank you, that'll be my goal for tomorrow.

    @mgoloubenko the Becker finals are very close to the actual exam, if you can master those, you'll pass!

    P.s. You're mad cute 🙂

    @ jenuno1, thank you! Doug is quite the stud himself lol. If you don't mind me asking, did you do well on the Becker finals? I've heard so many people say they failed but then passed the real thing. I'm approaching a panicking stage

    😉

    No reason to panic. I took the final exams more than once. If I remember correctly, the first try on #1 was around a 70, and on #2 was around 65. I repeated both of them until I was scoring in the upper 80's.. I probably did each final about 3 times each…I may have memorized some of the answers, but it was still great practice! Also, you might consider doing the AICPA released questions, those are good practice as well. You have a loooong weekend ahead of you!

    Yeah I went over the final exams and took notes and made flash cards so that was definitely helpful. I'm also making flash cards of all the JE's for the big topics in case I run into them in the SIMs. How soon after taking the final exam did you take the actual test? I'm really glad to hear that you scored in the same range on the first attempt as me and then did really well on the actual exam! You've just given me enough motivation to stop sulking and hit the library hard 🙂

    Glad to hear that! I took both finals two days before the test (probably not the best idea, but I ran out of time)…the day before the exam I just focused on my weaker areas (EPS, Pensions, Consolidations, etc). Making a list of JE's is a GREAET idea, you'll thank yourself for it on the SIMS.

    I am on the same boat as you. I did really well on the Becker homework questions, but not as well on the final exam. They seem to be much harder than the hw questions. I actually did a god job on the sims, but not the MC.

    Now I'm working on MC from the Wiley test bank, and doing bad. Freaking out right now…..
