So I take FAR in one month and almost went through the lectures and hws. However, I went back and skimmed some stuff and my god it is SO hard to remember this garbage. Is this a normal reaction?

I had the same problem. I'm using Becker and by the time I finished the FAR lectures and homework I couldn't remember what I'd learned at the beginning. I'm taking the FAR exam on Monday (10/28) and as of last weekend I was freaking out. On Monday (4 days ago) I bought the NINJA audio for FAR and the NINJA notes and they have helped a TON! I have been able to get a lot of extra study time in during my daily work commute by listening to the audio lectures in the car. I've also been working Becker MCQs like crazy and it seems like everything is coming together now. I think when you actually start working the MCQs repeatedly you'll feel better. Last night I retook a progress quiz that I had originally taken 2 1/2 weeks ago when I first started reviewing. The first time I took it I scored a 47 (yikes!) last night I scored 80 (I didn't remember seeing any of the questions so it was an accurate 80 – no memorized answers).

    FAR - 10/28/13 - 79
    AUD - 11/23/13 - 87
    BEC - 12/5/13 - 83
    REG - 1/4/14 - 86 and done! 🙂

I have seen an improvement by going over the material very slowly. Most people say 150 to 200 hours of studying for FAR. If you think about it that means 15 to 20 hours per section to have good comprehension.

A theory that has been on my mind is that a lot of the people that pass these exams with high scores are very patient and are probably putting in a lot more hours per section than the average candidate. While the people who feel the material is hard to process are just not spending enough time on the subject before they move on.

Most of the material that is “hard” in FAR just needs to be read over four or five times. If you are watching the lectures without pausing to take notes or giving your intellect time to process things you are probably not watching them right. Today I rewound the Becker video like five times to help really understand earnings per share. I might be wrong here so I would love to brainstorm this one.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

That is a totally normal reaction. The volume of material is just so huge, I don't know how (or if) anyone really feels prepared for FAR. I felt lost and was positive I failed but miraculously passed.

Just keep working the questions, taking your own notes, writing out things in your own words. You probably know more than you think.

    Good luck!
