Hi, new to this forum but long-time lurker. I need help and advice. Had a difficult time choosing a title for this thread but here’s the deal. So, I passed the first three sections on first attempt while not working but being single mom. Goal was to get a job as I had been out of workforce as a stay at home mom for a while. I have now started a job but not done with FAR. I was at it about a month before starting work and now I have not much time after work and after kids go to bed to study. Supposed to test January 9th. I am only scoring at 50-60%. I don’t feel confident in my ability to pass by then. I don’t even know if I can improve my score rate at all. I watched the Becker lectures twice and ninja notes. Hasn’t helped my score at all. I feel like I am incapable of doing this. How long did it take others to go from a score of 50-60% to a score of around 75%? what did it take? If I failed, I would have one last chance to take in April but I can’t even fathom this level of stress for that much more time. Also going through a lot with divorce and special needs kids. I would lose audit that I took last year if I didn’t pass by early April and I would definitely quit at that point. So I have the job which highly encourages but does not require Cpa but I just don’t want to throw away all those months of blood, sweat, and tears lost passing the last three. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for listening:-).

I am still new to this form, I didn't start any exams yet, but I am checking which courses to use. I am impressed you passed 3 parts already being a single mom and with special need kids..honestly very few people can do that! DONT give up! you are smart enough and put the hard work to pass the past three parts from the first attempt! I read ninja materials and review practices were the key for others to pass. I also read wiley test bank. I cant help you out of experience, but that is what others wrote on this form. Hang in there! you can do it!

You've come so far… it's definitely worth sitting for the exam in January and then re-taking it in April if needed. You don't want to be up for a promotion and have it come down to “you didn't finish your cpa so we are going to give the promotion to someone else” and you'll have a lot more opportunities to go somewhere else if you have a cpa (your story of obtaining a cpa as a single working mother to a special needs child would be very powerful in any interview)

FAR will be my first ever cpa exam and I am taking it on 1/4 (I think I've overstudied, but the concepts/rules are finally clicking for me). The study materials/techniques that have helped me the most so far include:

    – The Becker outlines for each chapter
    – Taking Becker progress tests and practice exams and then spending a lot of time reviewing my answers (right and wrong answers) and reading through the explanations, taking notes on all questions I got wrong or things that I think I will forget. Then I re-read these notes every few days to keep them fresh in mind
    – The AICPA 2015 released questions (50 MCQs and 2 SIMs)
    – Reading through the Becker pass keys

    FAR - 85 (01/2016)
    BEC - 88 (05/2016)
    AUD - 09/2016
REG - plan to take in 11/2016 or 01/2017

My test is next Thursday- about 6 days from now. I am trending about 85% overall, but it wasn't until early last week that I hit 70% (so about 2 weeks before my exam). It says I've done about 65 hours and a total of 2141 question attempts.

I would suggest you make sure utilizing the custom MCQ objectives. Do questions missed last time seen or trouble questions. Also try to see each question at least once. I think if you're around 70-75% and have seen almost all questions you should be fine.

    FAR - 89
    AUD - 88
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

@perplexed I don't really have any words of wisdom, but I came on the site to get some encouragement because I'm feeling so down about FAR. This is my last exam, as a single mom as well. I also went through the separation during the process of the exam, so I completely understand the stress you are under.
I already sat in October and missed by 5 points, so I've been through the Roger lectures at least twice, if not more for some problem areas. This time around I did semi-frequent sets of MCQs just to keep the material fresh, but I recently started the Ninja MCQs and feel like there is no hope I'll be able to pass this section. I will lose REG at the end of May, so I do have one last chance if I have to take FAR a third time after busy season, but I'm also at the point where I don't know if I can take this much longer. I guess I write this just so you know you're not the only one. We can do this! I'm rooting for you!

    REG - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - Passed
FAR - Passed!!!! I have my life back.
