So Im taking FAR Aug 30th. Using Becker, in the middle of F3. Not employed right now so I have all the time in the world. But Im beginning to think that the way I studied for BEC and AUD will not apply here. I mean there is so much random information. ugh. Its honestly demoralizing. Today I wanted to finish F3 but realized I had no idea what in the heck I was reading. I guess I will keep trucking on. Anyone else change their study habits or process for FAR? I wouldnt say the material is tougher (honestly think Variances in BEC will be the hardest thing for me) but the AMOUNT OF STUFF is asinine. haha just venting. Thanks : )

I just started FAR today too and I honestly couldn't even sit through all of F1 and IT IS super demoralizing to know that there's 9 more lectures just like it further down the road. I'm not sure how you've studied previously, but I've always gone through everything once and then reviewed it again, focusing especially on the things that I didn't understand very well the first time around.

However, I'm thinking that with the quantity of material and subject matters in FAR, that I might do a review as I go through it process and just hope that it all sticks with me after I go through it a few times. And then, maybe an overall test at the end to see what areas of weaknesses have developed since going through the material initially and taking the week before the exam to review those areas instead of trying to look over everything? I'm not quite sure yet. :/

    BEC - 7/9/12 - 91
    AUD - 5/13/13 - 87
    FAR - 1/3/14 - 80

Thats how I previously studies. Watched the lecture (for example F1) then read the chapter. Then did the multiple choice questions. The ones I got wrong I wrote down in a notebook. But with FAR by notebook is getting used a lot. I dunno. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

    P.S. You're taking 3 sections in JULY !>!>!

Yeah, with FAR, there's just so much going on. In reality, it's probably unlikely that any amount of review will get you to that ideal level of comfort that you'll wish you have going into the exam. But I think, definitely just keep pushing through it and focusing on those areas that you know you can kill on the exam and read through the FAR posts from everyone else on this forum to see what those heavily emphasized areas really are. The exam itself is only 4 hours long, so it's impossible for them to cram everything into it.

And yeah, July really sucks. I took REG the first week and I just took BEC yesterday, but I'm not taking FAR until the last day in July. I'm not working this summer though, so I don't have to balance studying with a job or anything.

    Best of luck to you!

For FAR I actually went through the entire Becker course three times, the first time I just kept moving even if I didn't remember everything. My goal the first time through was to understand everything, not necessarily memorize all of it. The second time through was to further reinforce the material and clear up any confusion I had the first time around (the material seemed a lot more manageable the second time through). Then on my final round I focused on memorization, specifically on mnemonics (this comes in very handy with pension accounting).

@nfs480 thats what I have been thinking all day of doing. Thanks for the advice. P.S. what chapters would you say you focused more on? I keep hearing pensions… Im not skipping anything, but would just like to know what sections to focus more energy and time on.

@wanxx043 oh my god. That is impressive. I am also not working but I dont think I retain information as well as you must. If you can do it in 22 days, that gives me hope!! Good luck to you as well!

I would focus on pensions and government/not-for-profit (I don't remember off hand which specific chapters in FAR contained these). Those areas are both heavily tested on FAR.

According to my plan I left one week total for review. Might take a few days off from work to completely focus.

Hang in there folks! I'll be tackling her for the 3rd time on Friday. I promise you – the exam itself is so much less horrible than what you are creating in your head. If I could have just realized that instead of panicking, I probably would have pulled it off last time.

Also, of all of the parts, I think FAR is the most straighforward as far as what will appear on your exam. There will be no surprises. I thought that with REG and BEC there were some completely RANDOM questions on there that I had no clue how to calculate or answer.

When people tell you to focus on Govt & NFP, they aren't kidding. The other sections are a wild card. But those two can account for a total of 24% of your grade! Put the time in to nail them down and you'll be happy you did!

Oh – and something someone suggested to me. I think it was my girl, CPA628. Study Govt and NFP SEPARATELY. They will start to blend together which is not good! There are a lot of little tricky differences! When I studied them separately, I started to really be able to differentiate between the two.

Good luck everyone! Let's get FAR!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

The thing that I found most helpful was after going through all the sections/lectures/MCQ/supplemental Qs/Sims/Practice Exams, I did many 100 Question quizzes. I did them enough to the point where I could answer almost every question through memory. I figured once I got to that point, I knew the material well enough.

It doesn't work for everyone, but usually grinding through MCQ over and over again is the best way to solidify the information.

    REG: 84! Officially Done!

I am also taking it at the end of August and honestly I am starting to feel really defeated. I just went through my F6 lectures and my head is spinning. I was considering going back and restudying 1 through 5 first but decided to just plow through.

What scares me is as I have gone through the first five chapter I really don't remember much of it (I havent been keeping up with the progress tests because there is just so much material). My goal is to have three weeks left to go through all of the material again. I have the second time around it will stick. Then I go through it the second time I will make sure I keep up with the progress tests so that I have a better chance of retaining.

I am also taking a week off before my exam so I will have that last push. I just hope its enough. There is so much to know and I am not even through all of the chapters yet. I really don't want to have to take this one a second time.

Haha I love reading the posts on here. At the end of F3 Gearty says about consolidations, “most of us had a full semester during senior year of college, but we (becker) did it in one class.” ahhhhhh am I supposed to feel good about this? hahaha oh lord help me. Good luck to all.

I feel like FAR is impossible too. Thing for me is I don't have difficulty understanding the material except for maybe consolidations and governmental. However, one week later and it seems like the material I previously “understood” is a new subject.

    Journey begins in July 2012.

    FAR - 87 (8/7/2012)
    REG - 89 (11/19/2012)
    AUD - 95 (1/17/2013)
    BEC - 81 (2/26/2013)
