FAR – Information Overload?

Does anyone else struggle with retention of information or feeling like your brain is going to burst? I find myself thinking back about what I studied 2-3 days ago, which is probably a good 6-8 hours worth of material later..and drawing a blank as I try to recall it. When I figure that I’m not even halfway through the entire study program for FAR, it is truly a daunting feeling. Is anyone else feeling the same way? Does the information that you struggle to recall magically come to you when it counts (i.e. on the actual exam)?

It is a lot of information. The key is to keep recalling it to your short-term memory. This is my second time studying for FAR and even though my first attempt was last jan/feb, I am finding the material makes WAY more sense this time around and more is sticking. I have taken all the tests so far and I also think that my cumulative learning is helping.
I am doing a chapter a day and I am hoping that I don't lose too much information! We will see …

Glad I'm not the only one! I just finished watching all Roger's lectures on leases and feel like all I can remember is his stupid song for the criteria of a capital lease lol. This is my first exam and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to study. As he's going through the class questions I keep saying to myself how am I going to remember how to do all this stuff? I haven't been doing many mcq's and I'm scoring really low on the ones I do, but I plan on hammering out a ton of them during my review using ninja. Most people say that's where it starts to click so I'm hoping that's the case for me as well.

Not doing multiple choice as you go is a big mistake IMO.

You should do a chapter, do the MCQ, and not move on until you can score 75% on a set of 30 questions or at least get in the ballpark of that score.

Then, after a day or two, hit the MCQ really quickly just to refresh your memory and encourage retention. Every 5-10 chapters review everything again.

Also, try to keep in mind that you want an understanding of the fundamentals of each chapter. Like for leases, understand the idea behind TT BPO 75 and 90 and the lease amortization scheduling. Probably the most important things. Journal entries like the sale-leaseback are important too but secondary. And stuff that gets TOO detailed (like all those laws about leases involving real estate) you can probably not focus that much on. Ain't nobody got time for that.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)

TheHoundThatRides & 6silvermoonbeams – I decided to go with a modified NINJA Method and try and get through all the lectures first before doing any mcq. However, I've been doing short quizzes after each section and then a review at the end of the week and throwing in some mcq for each completed section. Reason why I don't try and do all the mcq after each section is because it will take me too long to get through them and by the time I get to the end I will probably have forgotten most material from the beginning.

Another reason I'm trying to get through the lectures first is because my wife is due to give birth in a few weeks and I'd rather be done with them and pounding out mcq's and rewriting Ninja Notes and J/E's. This being my first child I have no idea what to expect and my schedule could be all over the place when the baby comes lol.
