FAR in 4.5 – 5 weeks possible?

Im going to be studying full time (although I take frequent breaks.. lose concentration very easily). Is 4.5 – 5 weeks enough for doing the mcq’s twice, reading the chapters once, viewing the lectures once, and both final exams? I feel like this is not enough. My exam is October 5th, and I just started reading F1.

No idea about all that, but I got through it in 4 weeks. FAR was the only one I worked pretty hard on so I did put in a bunch of time- I'd say 80-90 hours? I had Roger so I have no idea how it compares to Becker sections.

I am waiting on my REG score next 1.5wks. My goal is same has yours. No job or school.

Should start studying or wait for REG score, and then do cram?

I think you can do it. Go about 7-9 hours a day and you'll be solid.

I'd skip the video lectures and focus on the text book though.

@CashMoney10 – I was just thinking about that. I realized that after watching the lecture I didn't really pick up anything. I never do, but somehow I feel guilty not watching the lectures. I think I will skip lectures from now on. Its pointless, and never has helped.

@Sandra – 80-90 hours?! Good God!!!! I can barely do an hour anymore.. Adderall isn't even helping anymore either!

I'm the same way. I realized that I wasn't learning anything from watching the videos. I learn best when studying the material from the book instead of someone telling it to me. It was the same way in school so I asked myself if it really was going to be different using my review course.

Skipping the videos also gives more time to drill the mcq's, re-read the chapters, and taking your own notes. I've passed all three of my sections without the lectures and have failed every time I used the videos.

However, this is all IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. The video lectures probably helped out more people pass the exam than they have not. I just feel like we might have the same learning process.

I think thats what I will starting today. I will finish reading F1, do the MCQ's, and from now on just read and skip the lecture. I never attended lectures in most of my accounting classes, and I would only read the book before exams, and would always get high grades on them. I honestly think this is the best way for me to learn. I waste a whole day on going through a 3-4 hour lecture because of the frequent stopping I do. The lectures are boring as hell.

Thanks for giving me that idea! I will try and re-read the whole book within 5 or so days and then pound MCQ's for the second time the last 2 weeks before the exam. Hopefully I passed audit, and this will be my last. Cant wait for that feeling.

4-5 weeks is def enought time to study for FAR. Probably not for doing the mcq's 2x each AND reading the textbook, unless you are REALLY efficient & commited.

I'd try to watch all the lectures or read the book (but not both IMO), do the MCQ's once (but if you are falling behind schedule – it's okay to skip to stay on schedule). Then during your review of 1.5 to 2 weeks, do a practice test or a practice exam every day. For the questions you get wrong, make sure you understand how to do them, go back and read the book if you need to. I have a feeling if you try to do your plan, you wont have enough time for review.

Most important thing, make a schedule and stick to it, so you have enough time for your review stage (very important for a test as big/long as FAR, as you WILL forget alot of material by the time you get to the end). The practice tests during your review are an excellent way to bring everything together (as they mix questions from all of the homeowork together), and make you go back, review, and look at all your problem areas, before you actually take your exam.

80-90 hours TOTAL spread over a month. I think that's about average for FAR?

    Bummer about the Adderall.

Make sure you do what works for you when you plan your schedule, not what works for everyone else. I love my lectures but some people HATE them. I dont do a ton of MCQs and people love those.

Yes, it is possible. But, it's not easy.

I was able to pass it (my second time taking it a year later) with only giving myself 4 weeks using Becker and NINJA audio. I did 3 chapters a week (a chapter every 2 days). One day all the lectures, the next all the MCQs, then on Sunday a quiz of all the chapters I had covered thus far and a sprinkle of sims. The last week I studied the last chapter and did MCQs over and over and over again. If I found a section that I just wasn't comfortable with, I would do MCQs in that area and practice them until I understood the topic and all the ifs ands and buts that went with it.

I HATE the final reviews. Simply because my scores have always been really bad and it does nothing but stress me out even more. The only reason I take them is to see different MCQs.

I worked full time during the whole period I was studying. Thankfully, I do not have kids that I had to attend to, but I do have two dogs that demand attention like kids sometimes 🙂

It's definitely possible, but I wouldn't wish that stress upon anyone. I did have a nervous breakdown once or twice…

    Best of luck!

It's possible. I originally had about 5 weeks planned for my FAR studies. I ended up with about 4 weeks because I wanted to spend some time with my best friend who is struggling with cancer. I am glad I took the week off though. I probably could have gotten higher than my 82 but I am more than happy simply passing and I am so grateful I wasn't working and could spend some time with her.

I spent more time than that studying! Granted it wasn't always efficient. Still 80 hours seems very short for such a comprehensive test.

(12 hours per chapter x 10 chapters) = at least 120 hours of initial study before review. I think Becker estimates 4 hours per lecture, 6 for homework, and 2 for SIMS. I've always found their estimates to be low IMO.
