Does anyone have any suggestions for reviewing for FAR? I am using Becker and I have already gone through all the chapters, and I am now reviewing each chapter again. I am now on ch 5 and I am reading the chapters again, reviewing my notes on missed questions, and redoing ALL the homework problems. I am also doing progress tests. I know I still have a little while until my exam, but I feel like I am way behind. I just moved to Texas (from Louisiana) and I am getting adjusted to my first full time job. I find it hard to come home and study every day after work. Anyone else in the same boat?

If you already reviewed all of the chapters and did all of the homework, then I think you're ahead. Some people would say 4 weeks for final review is way more time than needed. I think 2-4 weeks for final review is ideal. After I complete all of the chapters and homework, I go over all of the chapters and homework again and do progress tests as much as possible.

I would say do progress tests, making detailed notes of anything you miss or would find useful on review. If you haven't done a Becker Final Exam yet, I would say maybe do one in a week and then save the other one for a week before your actual exam.

    REG - 93 (7/30/13)
    BEC - 90 (8/19/13)
    AUD - 98 (8/31/13)
    FAR - 84 (10/19/13)

MrsBing, I've heard 2-4 weeks for review, but I find that almost impossible being that I work full time and to fully cover the information, I can usually only get 2 chapters done per week. How many hours a week do you a review? I think that might give me a better understanding.

W_HAMILTON, I took a practice test on Saturday and I realized how much I need to review, especially in Gov't/NFP. Have you found that you can do poorly on the practice tests, but still do well on the exam?

amh16, I got so burned out that I didn't even get to do progress tests! Heck, I basically stopped doing MCQs about halfway through the FAR material! If you are just beginning your review, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't do so well on the progress tests. It's still new to you, so I would imagine most wouldn't be scoring like 90s on the first progress tests they take.

Definitely DON'T skimp on the governmental/NFP material. You don't necessarily need to be a whiz at it, but you do need to understand the various funds, restrictions, how to classify funds in terms of restrictions, etc.

One of the most helpful things I found about this site was comparing to how well I did on the Becker FAR Final Exams to how other people scored and then comparing their Becker scores to their actual scores listed in their signatures. I think that is a good way to gauge yourself. If you search through the recent threads section (or just do a Google search), you should see some specific threads that list “Becker vs. Actual Exam” comparisons. When I didn't do so well on the practice exams, those threads gave me hope because I would see others that didn't do so well on the practice exams, but still passed the actual exams!

My review consists of re-reading each chapter and re-do a minimum of half the MCQ's for each chapter. Then 2 weeks of non-stop Wiley questions and reviewing notes and taking both Becker final exams. So for FAR, it's 10 chapters, this is my final review broken out in hours:

Each chapter: Reading 2 hours, MCQ 3-4 hours = 5-6 hours/chapter or 50-60 hours for all 10 chapters.

Both Final Exams: 4 hours each or 8 hours total

    Wiley MCQs: 3 hours a day for 2 weeks = 42 hours

Reviewing Notes/Flashcards each day during final 2 weeks = 7-14 hours

Total Final Review = 107-124 hours

That's probably excessive for a final review, but I wanted to make sure my odds of passing the first time was good.
