Howdy,

I am wondering how much time and effect do you spend on governmental accounting, nonprofit and business consolidation? I am halfway through governmental accounting, it is so different and so new to me. Since it worth 5-15% on blueprint, I will learn it nice and slow. But should I just scan through nonprofit and business consolidation? I am wondering if I should spend the same amount of effort on nonprofit and business consolidation.

Going to speak here from my experience last month when I took FAR.

Yes, Gov't and NFP are heavily tested which it caught me off guard on test + poor time management and maybe being underprepared on SIMs and got a 65. I plan to revisit them again and make certain to FULLY understand the concepts, since those two and Biz consolidation contain a great deal in my review program.

FAR was my first test and I did take it under the previous format. However, the first question on the test was a governmental question. Overall, VERY heavily tested.

In fact, I even got a TBS on governmental accounting. I can't disclose specifics, but it was not easy.

Non-profit is tested less, but still worth knowing for the test.

anyway…that's my 4 cents.

Definitely know government accounting. NFP is a very small portion, it's actually fairly easy to learn.

I actually signed up just to reply to this post, solely to suggest not taking consolidation for granted. When I took FAR, I had 3 sims that involved consolidation concepts, one of which was fairly involved. Burned through my time, but luckily I've always had a handle on eliminations and things turned out OK.

It's a major portion of the exam. 5-15% for one topic is huge. What percent of the exam do you think bonds are? Probably less than 5%. Should you just skim over bonds and not really learn them?

Trust me, there were a lot of questions on NFP and govt on my exam. You don't want to be left guessing on them.
