I am currently studying for FAR with an exam date of December 6. I can’t seem to grasp any of the concepts related to governmental accounting. Has anyone else had this problem? If you did and took the exam, how did you do?

The first time I took this exam I scored a 74 and governmental accounting was my weakest area.

    REG 55,53
    AUD 80
    BEC 60
    FAR 74, 70

Took FAR in October and passed. Governmental acctg was one of the main areas on the exam, which I was hoping I wouldn't see a lot of since it was my weakest area of understanding as well. What got me through it was just hammering a few hundred MCQs in Becker and reviewing the ones that I got incorrect. Knowing what all the funds are, what type of accounting / resource measurement they use, and the fund/gov't wide FS is definitely crucial for doing well on those questions.

With a 74 the last time you sat for FAR, you're right on the cusp of passing. Just continue to put the time in and you got this!

It’s a heavily tested subject so I would spend a lot of time on it. Mostly just knowing each type of fund and what accounting method is used and certain characteristics of each. Just takes a good couple days of focus and plenty of MCQs to get a good grasp. GL!

It's quite an unpleasant area for most of us who've never touched government accounting outside FAR. You can pass with minimal knowledge if your other areas are strong. You have plenty of time to learn it before December 6, though.

Bob's videos (Ninja) helped me get over the hump with FAR for governmental/ NFP.

I remember when I took FAR (and failed) at least 80% (not exaggerating) of the exam was governmental and not-for-profit which I did not focus on. I know when I say 80% you're thinking I'm talking shit but really, there were at least 25 questions in each multiple choice testlet which were those topics.
    .
For the next exam (which I passed), I studied the hell out of governmental and not-for-profit. I knew that stuff like the back of my hand. I had seven questions on both of those topics combined. Yes, I counted. It really made me angry. I passed the exam but thinking about how stupid the exam is still annoys me today. It's all a crap shoot. You gotta know it all.

    FAR - 75 | REG - 87 | AUD - 82 | LAW - 81
