FAR for the 3rd time

    I’m studying for the FAR exam for the 3rd time. The first time I really thought I might have passed with a 75, but got 67. The 2nd time I just wasn’t focused and came out with a 67 again. I was CPA vet by then ( failed FAR, failed AUD, passed AUD), but I ran out of time on my 2nd try. The whole way through I could tell my head just wasn’t in the game.

    My 3rd try is scheduled for July 5th, and I’m worried the same thing will happen. For some reason I just cannot get myself focused for FAR. I fee totally lost. Am I spending too much time on the stuff I already know? Am I not dedicating enough time to sims? I just feel like studying this material all over again makes me want to jump out the window and I have no idea how to get myself going.

    Anyone else ever feel like this? I only have 20 days left to review and I feel like I’m drowning. If I have to take this test a 4th time I will go insane.

    Hang in there Corrie10,

    I am testing again for far on 7/7. I definitely feel overwhellmed and unfocused. But I have some great help and advice so when I am feeling my meltdown, I just walk away for a very few minutes, take a breathe and focus on one topic at a time. I have ditched the book and videos and am doing as many mcq's as I can. I am focusing on learning from the answers right or wrong.

    Frustration is apart of preparing for the beast.

    @Corrie10 hang in there!!

    I got 39 on the first FAR exam! I was bumped!! I knew I didn't do good but totally didn't expect to get such a LOW score!! Re-match on July 2nd. And I feel like I'm not ready too…

    I am not giving up even though I know I'm running out of time! Just do as much MCQ as possible!

    Good luck!!

    thanks tncincy,

    looks like we have the same strategy of taking the holiday to get that extra study time. I've passed 2 parts so far, and find it a thousand times more difficult to re-study a part you've failed rather than new material. I think you're right, I need to just do mcq's till I want to cry.

    This part is the hardest one for me. The amount of material is ridiculous.

    Good luck on the 7th!

    I agree with tncincy. I hated studying for AUD a second time right after failing the first time. I can only imagine how the lack of motivation is for a third round of studying. I was extremely unmotivated to hit the books again so I decided to just focus on notes and MCQ and it worked. If you do that for the next 20 days I think you will find that you are retaining because you are actively engaged versus watching/reading the book. Changing up the way you study can make you feel like you are studying for a new section. Focus hard on your weak areas, but don't forget to study your strong areas some just to keep them fresh. You can do this. If you have audio listen to that as much as possible to the point you can talk along with the recording. If you know an area extremely well don't spend time on it until the day or so before the test. Make sure you're getting quality studying in and not just going through the motions again. I would also suggest taking the day before as a semi relaxation day. Don't work any MCQ, just read through your notes section by section and chill out a little bit. It will go along way towards going into the exam refreshed.

    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

    I'm in the same boat. Taking FAR for the 3rd time. I was devastated with a 73 a few weeks ago. I'm on my last test and my 18 months is up August 31st. I'm wondering if I should retake before July 20th (1st window), take it in the 2nd window or wait and make sure I have all the time I want/need and take it at the end of testing window #3. I'm worried I will lose momentum if I wait until the 3rd window, but I also don't want to push for an unrealistic goal and fail. Comments?

    @bbarlow,

    I found that waiting was not to my best interest. I would start off good studying, things happen and it's too hard to get the momentum back. So if you have a good study now, why wait……Get it behind you…..if you can. or if you dare….

    Try pounding down a few beers before the exam… it's a good way to take the edge off. Too much pressure.
