Hello everyone, I am schedued to sit for FAR on July 20th, and per usual I slacked off on my studying. I have gone through chapters 1-4 averaging a 60% on MCQ’s on my first pass but have not looked at the remaining parts of the book. I currently work full time but am planning to devot 4-5 hours a night to studying during the week and 14-16 this weekend and Thursday-Sunday of next week (Took PTO on Thursday and Friday), do you think it’s possible to pass within this timeframe and available hours (I’m figuring about 100+ hours of study time)?

Also I am using Becker, I know to focus on the MCQ’s but how much of the book should I actually read and what areas should I pay the most attention to?

wow. You're braver than I am. I thought I was a slacker. Ok if I were in your shoes, I would get some index cards and start writing out every pass key, every nmomeunic and every JE. Dont bother watching the videos – you dont have time. Then do as many of the MCQ from each section as you can.

I won't watch the videos but I do have a 3 hour drive round trip for work so I plan on replaying the Gov't and NFP chapters for the next couple days while driving

I would say to get to about a 50/50 chance of passing by the 20th, you need to get in at least 50 good hours of studying in, doing almost nothing but MCQ's/sims and taking detailed notes on any you get wrong or have to guess at.

I keep a spreadsheet of my study schedule, goals, time spent studying, trending score and overall average score. According to it, it took me about 40 hours of notes/MCQ's to go from a 65 trending score to a 75 and another 20 hours of mostly MCQs to get to an 85.

So that's where I get the guesstimate of about 50 hours for you to get from a 60 to a 75. Your milage may vary.

    Have you thought about rescheduling?

I could reschedule but if I don't pass on the 20th I lose out on a $5k bonus at work, so I figured I'll take it and hope for the best if I fail it I just need to pass before January 31 2016 so my BEC score doesn't fall off.

I'm taking it the same time as you. You have a lot of courage if you take it on the 20th. I got through all the material about 5 days ago and I'm halfway through answering all the MC again. I'm averaging about 70%.

I haven't taken any other CPA section yet so I have no idea where I sit as far as preparation but I do know this; the material is really intricate in the back half of the becker book. It's not to be underestimated.

I personally would reschedule if I worked full-time. Nothing started to fully come together until I hit my review phase and you haven't even got through the material once.

But if you decide to go through with it, concentrate heavily on F8 and F9. Those two chapters will most likely be tested heavily.

    Using Becker self-study

    AUD: (69) 45hrs of study - 1st attempt
