Hi!

I know I’m not alone but FAR has me freaked out ): I’m using Becker and Ninja MCQ, testing July 14th. However, I’m only on F4 out of 10 chapters and it already feels like details from the first three slip my mind. I started studying in April and am already at 101 hours. I know most people spend 150 hours for the entire book/test so I’m just feeling discouraged that I’ve spent so long on 4 chapters out of 10 and still don’t feel 100% master level yet 🙁
I’m aware that I’m probably not at the hardest chapters of FAR yet too..

Is there anyone else who can relate?

Encouragement. The things I can see:

– You're using a deadly combination to slay the FAR exam – Becker and Ninja MCQ.

– A huge part of the exam is the content you have already covered – so doing a good number of MCQ will be the thing to reinforce that learning

– 150 is an “average” number – and one that I don't see backed by scientific studies and thus – purely an estimate. Many will require more time (as did I) – don't be intimidated by needing more time. If you did every single thing that Becker calls for – you'd spend well over 150 hours and still not have a concrete basis to determine your likelihood to pass. With Ninja MCQ – you will have a good guide. Not 100% but about as close as you can get.

– You have plenty of time to nail this by July 🙂

In terms of time – I would consider doing all the MCQ provided by Becker not the best use of time if have Ninja. Instead, I'd focus on getting as much as possible out of the lectures/book then MCQ like mad. I did 1200 FAR MCQ. Look for the hockey stick in the learning curve. If you do 30 questions per session, and do at least 1200 mcq, that's 40 sessions. You may hover at 50-60% in those sessions but at some point – you'll see a corner where you start to get higher percents. That's when you can see the mastery happening. You'll know when you're ready – or at least have a decent gauge of it.

Process is rinse and repeat. Far is hard but if you understand the concept you will be fine. I use to review and repeat Q's which i had trouble with again and again. Make sure you understand JE. Do Q's topic wise, rather than chapter wise. This will help you to finger out your week areas. What you are going through is perfectly normal. It is about quality and not quantity of study time you do. Your are fine . For Quick review keep going back to your week areas. You have pass BEC so you are good. You will pass all the exam. Just keep pushing. Good luck.

btw, I was positive I failed, and complained about my test to NASBA about my test rep being rude, not allowing using earplugs, etc. and have a conspiracy theory, that NASBA saw I was close to passing, felt bad and passed me with 75

I’m not testing for a while, but I can attest that it’s gonna take me A LOT longer to get through the material than 150 hours. They say 15 hours per chapter. For me it’s probably taking more like 25 hours per chapter, and I’m not even going through all of the SIMs right now..

Keep grinding, set goals/quotas each day and get them done no matter what

FAR is a lost cause. The investment stuff is damn near impossible if you don't have a background in it. The financial instruments and equity section will take 2-3 weeks to learn.

I don't think I'll ever pass this exam. I truest believe that. My scores below tell a much different story of countless failures. I have one shot to pass FAR on 5/30 and I'm 100% certain I'm going to fail.

I think a lot of these exams are failed way before you get there. If you don't have confidence in yourself, what's the point? Not that I'm saying walk in there like you own the place, but so many threads and posts start out with “I'm certain i'm going to fail”. I'm saying that you've got to believe in your ability to slow down, read the words, and process through the question. Don't look at it as some hairy monster with 500 random parts out to get you. Think about it as an exam that you have spent countless hours prepping for, an exam that you're as prepared as you possibly could be for, and an exam that you are going to approach steadily and methodically.

Remember out of every 25 people to take the test, approx 10 pass. It's a very difficult exam, but it's certainly not impossible. You've got two months, so if used wisely, you have enough time to ensure you're better prepared than most. That's what it boils down to.

I haven't taken FAR yet but @aegis0101 is 100% right about having faith in yourself. Some people need more time to understand something which is totally fine. It may even seem like you know nothing after studying but I can tell yo right now that's not true. It's in there and you just have to keep digging and working hard! You will reap what you sow. So plant a garden. Allow yourself time to grow and find success.

Just try everyday to hang-in there and give it your best…regardless of your daily task goals. Seems like you're on a good path working through the material.

My best suggestions

1.utilize Beckers progress MCQ like there is no tomorrow!!
Do questions in sets of 25, 40, 100 etc, for single chapters, cumulative chapters-to-date, and even your weak chapters. I try to do progress MCQ at least a few times a week (wish i could every other day..but just no time). It will help to retain the concepts learn previously and keep it fresh in your mind.

2. Do and Re-do SIMs.
It helps to confirm whether or not you understand the concept and if you don't be sure to go back and review. I absolutely hate SIMs but, we have to be able to work through them. Some people are better at SIMs. But for me, the SIMs on the exams seemed harder.

3.Do the Chapter MCQ, review your incorrect ones, the with 24-72 hrs redo your incorrect/Marked questions.

4. take breaks and naps! You have to give your mind rest, recovery and a reset.

I just started studying for FAR and already feel off track and only on F1!!! its certainly a lot. I moved my exam from 7/17 to 7/31 because it's going to take me a good 1 week/CH. we'll see…

I passed FAR and you are almost certainly smarter than I am. I was convinced while I was studying FAR that I was mentally retarded and had just never been diagnosed. So, if a retard like me can pass, then you can too.

Becker and Nina will get you there. You have to tools to succeed.

Advice:

Pick up the pace. Seriously, you will definitely forget the early stuff if it takes you 3 months to finish the book. If you don't work through all the MCQ's now, don't sweat it. You will get them all while you're reviewing (the progress tests for Becker was the best tool I used).

I actually finished the book first before doing many MCQ's at all and then studied the subject as a whole. Watched every lecture and outlined the book before I started the MCQ's. Then I did the progress tests until my head exploded. But I have not heard a single person besides me admit to studying this test that way. It worked for me though.
