FAR cramming, in a few weeks? Will I survive?

I’m a newbie and because I’ve been so used to cramming for college tests, I assumed I could cram all of the FAR material in a few weeks… bzzzzz WRONG! At least it seems that way reading through all these posts. It’ll be the very first section I will ever sit for and I’m actually still waiting on my NTS (been waiting on 8 weeks… what a bother. I’m calling the coordinator tomorrow).

Reading through the comments and all the horror stories are freaking me out… So I’m here to ask the impossible: Has anyone ever crammed for FAR in 4 weeks and came out alive?? I feel like I have answered my own question. I’m in the middle of F-2 and I’m already miserable beyond belief but it feels nice that everyone else here knows what I’m going through (sorry for your pain guys!). I’m currently studying 12 hours everyday. I had hoped to pull some miracle within a month but I think I’ve been enjoying too much of my summer and am now rightly suffering for it. Hell is here and it’s called the CPA exam, colon FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING.

Hmm so now time for better strategic planning. Should I even try to take it at the end of August, or should I push it to Oct 1? I want to take as many sections in 2010 before the IFRS rollovers, so if I take FAR on 10/1, will it be smart of me to schedule the AUD exam 10/31 or 11/1, and the BEC exam on 11/30? I start full-time work in mid-Sept in public accounting, so I worry about how I will be able to take 3 exams in 2 months.

This is a really great community, and an excellent resource. I’m glad I found it. I appreciate any help! Anyway, back to studying. I’m already spending too much time here. Hermit territory… Here I come.

I somehow managed to study for FAR in about 4 weeks full-time, basically what you are doing. Since it sounds like you may have just graduated as did I, I found that most of it was stuff I had seen in my classes in the last few years and it came back to me pretty fast. I sat for FAR at the beginning of July and am waiting on my grades but I left feeling pretty good and that I wasn't surprised by anything that I found on the exam. I think you should have plenty of time to study before the end of August as long as your dedicated to studying for this.

    FAR 7/2 - 88
    BEC 7/30 - 87
    AUD 8/27 - 80
    REG 11/12 - 96

I think it's possible, though you'll be thoroughly miserable, only due to the fact that there does not seem to be a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. (It is a long f**kin tunnel)

And I've scheduled my audit test < three weeks after my FAR test. I just finished taking class for audit though and it's not NEARLY as much material as FAR. I think giving yourself 3 weeks to study for Audit and then another month for BEC should be do-able. Give yourself at least a day or two to wind down after each section so you don't go insane.

Also, Michelle, i think you're the first person who posted “walked out of there feeling pretty good” after FAR lol.

    Good luck!

    FAR: 8/5/2010 - 89
    AUD: 8/24/2010 - 92
    REG: 10/11/2010 - 94!!
    BEC: 11/30/2010

Ahh ok. There's some relief to be had (whatever kind of relief it is that I may be able to cram and suffer 24/7 in a few weeks time). I may still postpone it until Oct 1, but I must not let myself become copacetic. I am going to cram anyway and see how I feel about it in 3 weeks. Crunch time!

Thanks everyone! Good luck in studying for your own. 🙂
