jeffKeymasterRecommended prep time for FAR is 6-8 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

jesterhollowParticipantI took FAR on 10/25. I finished with less than 5 minutes on the clock. I had way more computational questions than not. I ended up rushing a bit on the sims but I feel better this time taking it than when I took it before. I used CPA Excel before and got so bogged down in the details that I didnt even finish the review course. Used Becker this time and didnt make thru F8 or F9 and couldnt remember much of F2 or F3. I think I just got nervous in the end. Fingers are crossed for score.

wishfulthinkingParticipantTook FAR on 10/31 and didn't feel like it was too bad. That kind of scares me! It could be a good thing or a bad thing…I had a nice mix of computational and theory MCQ that weren't too bad and the simulations were a mix between really tough and really easy….. guess we'll see when the scores come out!

stressedParticipantI'm new here and have a question. I am scheduled to take FAR 11/29. I am working full-time and going to school for my Masters of Tax part-time (VERY time consuming!). Is 4 weeks enough time to study? If not, can I get my money back?

AnonymousInactiveHey, cute_fefe,
Started my final review today. I really think I will pass this time. So much more of the material makes sense now than before. Little things like thinking in terms of t-accounts instead of “BASE” seem to work better for me. We'll see…
stressed,
It all depends on how comfortable you are with financial reporting. If you are fresh out of school or work with it, I'd say 4 weeks would be enough. If you need to start from scratch, you will need at least 10 weeks, especially if you are working or in school.

2010PleaseParticipantWow Wishfulthinking, that sounds great! This is what I would expect the test should be, but so many others have reported pretty rough exams with an inordinate amount of computational questions. Guess the AICPA was giving you a nice Halloween treat. 🙂

2010PleaseParticipantWishfulthinking,
Maybe it means one of two things:
1) You were just really well-prepared and it seemed easier than you expected, or
2) It was an easier test but with fewer points per question (meaning you have to answer more questions correctly than someone who had a more difficult exam).
Either way, hopefully it was a good thing, since you feel that you did well on it. Good Luck! You should know in about two weeks.

CajunCPAParticipantWell…..I just took my FAR exam and I'm so confident I failed it that I'm just not going to check my score until after auditing. Well I say that now, but I'm a very curious person so I might…lol. Anyways, about 15 questions in to the first testlet, I realized that I wasn't ready for it or it didn't prepare correctly. Probably both. I take AUD in 27 days. Needless to say, I've only been home from taking the FAR exam for 2 hours and feel like I should start studying for AUD tonight. I'm super bummed…
@CPAWannaBe – love the picture. That's awesome!
Good luck to everyone else taking FAR within the next month. Hopefully you guys do much better than me!

jllockeParticipantHi FAR people 🙂
A little background on my situation and a question for all of you:
I just took REG on Monday and today I am beginning to re-study for FAR which I took on 8/31 and got a 70 🙁 Super bummer. I test in less than four weeks so I need to stay in warp speed mode! I'm working 12 hour days (including a 4 hour commute), it is pitch black when I get in my car in the morning and pitch black when I get home, super depressing. So it is really hard to find the time and energy to study during the week. I am looking to all of you for motivation!
So, I usually spend about 6-8 hours per weekend day studying (about 10-12 during the last two weekends before each test) and I will have a couple work days off this month for Holidays I can study full days as well. My question to all of you is, how much time do you think is appropriate to study on a weekday? I haven't been able to pull off any more than 2 hours maximum, as I am completely exhausted when I get home at 6-7 pm. Is this enough? Am I being a wimp and need to suck it up and put in more time? I feel like because I am close (got a 70 last time), this may be enough time but I'm nervous because I can't risk failing again. I need your opinions!

FARbehindParticipantI think you should take the exam. It is a restudy so not that difficult like studying from scratch. Think about it, you might be halfway through by Christmas. Take the chance. It will be valuable experience either way.

AnonymousInactiveHello all…..re-take is Friday…..I have put the time in studying. Frankly, I am just slap worn out right now. I am praying that a year's worth of work at the CPA exam is going to payoff in two days. I scored 80% on practice exam last night. Tried to do another tonight……..having trouble focusing. Gonna review notes tomorrow and then tomorrow night squeeze in one more practice exam then take it relatively easy Friday before the exam. I had hoped for an early morning exam time but ended up only being able to get a 12:30 exam. I am going to the exam site with a good friend who is taking a Praxis exam (teacher exam). She will know when she leaves whether or not she passed…..I told her that's pretty neat……….we get tortured for several weeks…….LOL
Take care all! Please pray that I (with divine intervention) will conquer the beast this time!

jllockeParticipantGood luck ChaFayCPA! Let us know how it went 🙂
The good news is you are in wave one. Jeff's prediction is Nov. 17th for far so hopefully you will only be tortured for a little less than two weeks!

Take care!
